The Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprentice will work under the supervision of registered pharmacy professionals while completing the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

The apprentice will develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to become a registered Pharmacy Technician, supporting the safe and effective supply of medicines and delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the safe preparation, dispensing, and supply of medicines under supervision.
  • Accurately receive, process, and assemble prescriptions following standard operating procedures.
  • Support stock management, including ordering, receiving, rotating, and checking pharmaceutical products.
  • Maintain accurate records using pharmacy computer systems.
  • Participate in the storage and disposal of medicines in accordance with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Support the delivery of pharmacy services, including health promotion initiatives where appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, carers, healthcare professionals, and colleagues.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with data protection legislation.
  • Follow all health and safety, infection prevention, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Report incidents, errors, or concerns in accordance with organisational policies.
  • Complete all apprenticeship learning activities, including coursework, assessments, and workplace evidence within agreed timescales.
  • Attend off-the-job training as required by the apprenticeship programme.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Person Specification

Essential

  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics or willingness to work towards these.
  • Must already be a qualified Dispenser.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and undertake further training.
  • Reliable, organised, and punctual.
  • Commitment to providing excellent patient care.

Desirable

  • Understanding of confidentiality and patient-centred care.
  • Awareness of the role of Pharmacy Technicians within healthcare.

The apprentice will work towards achieving the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Standard, including:

The successful candidate will complete the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship with an approved training provider and work towards eligibility to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPh C), subject to meeting all regulatory requirements.
