Private Client Paralegal
To provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to the Private Client team, in our Enfiled office; assisting with a broad range of matters including wills, probate, estate administration, trusts, powers of attorney, and Court of Protection work. The role requires excellent client care, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage a varied caseload under supervision.
Key Responsibilities Client Matters
- Assist fee earners with the preparation and administration of wills, trusts, probate, and estate matters.
- Draft legal documents, correspondence, and forms under supervision.
- Prepare applications for Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration.
- Liaise with clients, beneficiaries, executors, financial institutions, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), and other third parties.
- Assist in the administration of estates, including gathering details of assets and liabilities.
- Prepare estate accounts and supporting documentation.
- Support the preparation and registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs).
- Assist with Court of Protection applications and ongoing deputyship administration where required.
- Conduct legal research and ensure compliance with current legislation and regulatory requirements.
Case Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files.
- Manage client documents and ensure all information is stored securely and confidentially.
- Monitor and comply with key dates and deadlines.
- Use the firm's case management systems effectively.
- Assist with file opening, conflict checks, and compliance procedures.
Client Care
- Provide a professional and empathetic service to clients, many of whom may be elderly or vulnerable.
- Handle telephone and email enquiries efficiently and courteously.
- Keep clients informed of progress on their matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and professional contacts.
Administrative Support
- Prepare attendance notes and file notes.
- Manage correspondence and document production.
- Arrange meetings and appointments for fee earners.
- Assist with billing and file closure procedures.
- Support the department in achieving performance and service objectives.
Skills and Experience Essential
- Previous experience working as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, or Secretary within a Private Client department.
- Knowledge of wills, probate, estate administration, trusts, and LPAs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and case management systems.
- Professional and client-focused approach.
Desirable
- Law degree, LPC, SQE, CILEX qualification, or equivalent legal studies.
- Experience of preparing probate applications and estate accounts.
- Knowledge of Court of Protection procedures.
