Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, implementation and review of Immunocore’s Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures, including those relating to wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to create a workplace that is safe and healthy for employees, contractors, and visitors, while meeting sustainability and budget targets.
  • Lead the review of EHS systems, advise the EHS Director, and coordinate with facilities, research teams and projects to ensure safety is fully considered.
  • Audit, assess and develop current EHS systems and activities.
  • Support and develop the EHS support groups (Mental health first‑aiders, Safety Reps, Ergo Champions, Fire Marshals, Sustainability Champions).
  • Lead fire safety strategy, advise on fire safety issues and provide recommendations.
  • Engage with stakeholders to identify and implement safety improvement strategies.
  • Drive corrective actions and improvements to safety practices.
  • Carry out design safety reviews of relevant project work.
  • Support projects in CDM (Construction, Design & Management) activities.
  • Review contractor risk assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Enhance site control of contractors.
  • Investigate near‑misses, incidents and accidents.
  • Mentor safety support groups and support their development.
  • Analyse data from electronic EHS systems (e.g., Eco‑online, ChemWatch).
  • Provide professional EHS advice to employees.
  • Work with the site to develop a safety behavioural program.
  • Develop and facilitate EHS training courses and modules, including toolbox talks.
  • Remain operationally focused and meet tight deadlines.
  • Develop Gantt charts, conduct critical‑path analysis, root‑cause and failure‑mode analysis.

Supervisory Responsibility

Act as deputy for the EHS Director.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Relevant EHS qualification (ISOH).
  • 10+ years of experience in a similar position.
  • Experience in a bi‑tech research environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • In‑depth understanding of health and safety legislation.

Other

  • Project management skills.
  • Understanding of the role of occupational health.
  • Understanding of quality systems (QMS).
  • Understanding of 5S and Six Sigma.
