Overview

This role is to serve as an expert and principal advisor in Facilities/Project Execution, applying knowledge of best practices and design matters to resolve issues. The individual will apply existing principles and guide the development of new ideas, maintaining internal and external strategic awareness. This role provides Immunocore with strategic and tactical facilities and property management in the UK, creating an environment that supports a \’great place to work\’. The role will address significant and unique issues across multiple business areas, devising solutions based on limited information, and exercising judgment. The implementation of these solutions requires a long-term perspective, aligned with Immunocore\’s strategic goals and objectives across functional areas. The individual will contribute to the development of strategies across multiple areas, providing input into functionally strategic decisions that may influence the overall company strategy. They will translate business segment strategy into functional plans and guide their execution. Erroneous decisions could critically impact the functional area and the company\’s overall success. Frequent interaction with senior management/stakeholders is required, often involving negotiations on significant matters. The individual will reconcile multiple stakeholder views to drive business results and function as a strategic leader within the organization. The role also involves regularly interacting with and influencing key stakeholders across the business, directing and leading activities across multiple areas, and leading cross-functional teams or projects with notable resource requirements, risks, and complexity. In terms of people management, the individual will demonstrate expert skills, promoting a culture of psychological safety and encouraging experimentation. They will ensure positive engagement and motivation, manage succession planning, support career progression, and promote talent retention. The individual will champion continuous learning, use advanced coaching techniques, and create a positive work environment that motivates the team to achieve stretch goals and tackle challenging business situations. They will manage escalated performance issues through appropriate mediation and intervention. Additionally, the role involves leading and managing the strategic and operational deliverables of the facilities property, capital projects, stores, and laboratory assets services. The individual will manage the facilities team, lab assets team, stores, external consultants, and associated contractors, ensuring Immunocore\’s assets and property portfolio meet the needs of the business, its facilities compliance obligations, and future masterplan requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Advise site leadership on critical facilities management, lab assets, and property matters.
  • Keep site leadership informed of significant Facilities, Property, and Laboratory issues.
  • Design and implement Facilities strategy in collaboration with other leaders.
  • Lead the Facilities team in executing day-to-day activities.
  • Develop and implement service improvements for Facilities and Operational Services.
  • Direct major projects (Capex/Opex) from design to execution.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective strategies across multiple service areas.
  • Ensure governance and compliance with H&S legislation and reporting.
  • Support operational risk management with robust mitigation strategies.
  • Identify and develop commercial opportunities while maintaining compliance.
  • Resolve complex problems impacting property, facilities, and laboratory services.
  • Partner with laboratory leads on major capital investment projects.
  • Lead and manage activities across Facilities, Property, Lab Assets, and Central Stores.
  • Ensure high-quality, efficient, and customer-focused services.
  • Manage the UK property portfolio, ensuring a safe and productive environment.
  • Set objectives for operational teams, develop performance metrics, and monitor processes.
  • Review services regularly to ensure effective performance and best value.
  • Direct service improvements, process changes, and innovation; support business cases and service agreements.
  • Evaluate energy requirements, lead vendor relationships, and drive cost-saving initiatives.
  • Partner with H&S Director for risk mitigation strategies; occasional after-hours site presence and potential travel required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Typically requires a Bachelor\’s degree and 16+ years of related experience; or equivalent experience.
  • NEBOSH Health & Safety training, IOSH or equivalent.
  • Experience and Knowledge:
    • Contractor and supply chain management.
    • Senior staff management and mentoring junior staff.
    • Report writing and presenting for various audiences.
    • Data analysis to support decision-making.
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Understanding and application of best principles and practices.
    • Proven track record at senior/executive level in building, construction, and facilities management.
    • Knowledge of key areas including OHSA, AutoCAD, Building Management Systems, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Desirable:
    • Worked within a Laboratory, Pharma, or Biotech environment.
