About Bonham and Brook

Bonham and Brook is a fast-growing advisory firm specialising in optimising tax relief solutions for businesses. We’re building our UK team in London, and while our services are specialist, our reputation comes from high performance, strong values and a culture that backs our people to succeed.

The Role

We're looking for a R&D Tax Financial Consultant with previous R&D tax experience to join our consultancy team. You'll work with businesses to analyse their financial information, identify qualifying R&D expenditure and prepare accurate, well-supported R&D tax claims. This is a hands-on role combining financial analysis, client interaction and claim delivery. You'll work alongside our Technical Consultants, taking increasing ownership of client engagements as you develop your experience and judgement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial analysis: Review trial balances, general ledgers, payroll, management accounts and other financial records to identify and substantiate qualifying R&D expenditure.
  • Claim preparation: Prepare R&D cost calculations, financial assessments and supporting working papers in accordance with relevant legislation and HMRC guidance.
  • Client engagement: Work directly with clients to obtain information, understand expenditure, clarify assumptions and communicate findings.
  • Claim delivery: Manage assigned engagements, coordinate with Technical Consultants, track outstanding actions and progress work to agreed deadlines.
  • Quality and compliance: Identify gaps, inconsistencies and potential risks in financial information, escalating complex matters appropriately.
  • Continuous improvement: Help improve the tools, processes and approaches we use to deliver high-quality claims efficiently.

Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a technical professional who possesses:

  • Previous hands-on experience preparing UK R&D tax claims (essential).
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence with detailed financial information.
  • Experience calculating qualifying R&D costs, including staff expenditure and other relevant categories.
  • Understanding of UK R&D tax relief and evidence-based claims.
  • Confidence communicating with clients and explaining financial information.
  • Organisation, attention to detail and accountability.
  • Willingness to learn, question assumptions and take on greater responsibility.

An accounting, corporate tax or financial analysis background is helpful, but actual R&D claim experience and analytical ability matter most.

Why Join Us?

You'll work with a varied portfolio of businesses, develop financial and technical expertise and have opportunities to progress towards greater client and portfolio responsibility. We're looking for someone who enjoys understanding data, solving problems and becoming a well-rounded consultant. At Bonham & Brook, we want our people to feel supported, recognised and able to grow.

Our benefits include:

  • Flexible Working & Time Off: Hybrid and flexible working arrangements may be available depending on the requirements of the role, business needs, and location, Generous annual leave, increasing with length of service, Enhanced maternity and paternity pay, Support for family commitments and important life events.
