We have vacancies for a Senior Immigration and Asylum Adviser/Caseworker (IAAS Level 2 with advocacy experience) at our Middlesbrough Office. We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and motivated applicants for these exciting positions. Candidates without LLB or Law related degree/diploma or equivalent without IAAS Level 2 will not be considered.
Basic Salary: £27,000 to £30,000 pa depending on qualifications and experience. Working hours are 37 hours per week.

The Role: As an Asylum Caseworker working for a reputable firm as IAC Ltd, you will work alongside a team of immigration specialists handling different caseloads up to IAAS competence levels. The role holder will undertake casework and manage a specific caseload relevant to their IAAS accreditation level in relation to Asylum and Detention matters. This may include asylum applications, appeals, representations and judicial reviews. This is a challenging role suited to an ambitious caseworker with excellent client care and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent clients before immigration judges, in person or in writing as required, including preparation of cases.
- Preparation and management of asylum applications.
- Ensure all contact with the client and any other action taken is recorded on casework database.
- Liaison with Immigration Authorities, other agencies and groups as required.
- Interview and advise clients regarding immigration and asylum law, procedure and practice. Provide guidance to clients on documents required and completion of documents.
- Attend clients in prison and detention centres and surgeries on occasions where appropriate.
- Meet specified casework and other targets.
- Keep up to date at all times with changes in Asylum and Immigration Law by reading, attending training sessions and research.
- Complete any other records in connection with casework to meet company requirements, maintain statistics and update database, client files using manual or computerised systems as appropriate and as required by management.
You should have a commercial awareness and practical IT skills. It is essential that you have strong ethical standards, fantastic team spirit, but most importantly be humble and passionate about the work carried out for clients.
About You:
- IAAS Level 2 accredited and being registered at IAA Level 3 (should you not have maintained IAA registration steps can be taken to register you with the IAA).
- 12 month minimum experience of working in this sector to IAAS Level 2 standard.
- Excellent drafting skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- A confident and determined approach.
- A high degree of self motivation and drive.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines.
- Excellent organisational skills and a methodical approach to casework.
