About the role
The Digital & Multimedia Director joins Radio Times at a pivotal point in its 100-year publishing journey.
This leadership role will drive the brand's evolution from market-leading but platform-siloed editorial production to an integrated, multimedia-first operating model.
The role will help foster a collaborative, high-performing culture that combines editorial excellence with experimentation, innovation and operational discipline overseeing transformation technically, and creatively in line with audience consumption whilst maintaining the authentic identity, editorial integrity, and audience trust that underpin the brand today.
The Digital & Multimedia Director works in close partnership with the Editorial Director and the senior editorial team to ensure our market-leading content reaches audiences in the right formats, on the right platforms, with the right support, insight and production models behind it.
This is a role for someone who understands the editorial mindset: how stories are commissioned, created, edited, packaged and trusted by audiences.
The successful candidate will build our talented teams' strong ideas into deeper audience relationships across print, web, app, video, audio, social and emerging platforms.
They will articulate why change is needed, bring colleagues with them, listen carefully to editorial concerns, and create practical workflows that make high-quality multimedia work easier to deliver.
This role provides leadership, structure and expertise in digital and multimedia growth, working collaboratively with editors, creators, production, product, commercial and technology teams.
Clear decision-making is essential to how the role operates.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the brand’s multimedia content strategy across video, audio, social, web, app and emerging platforms, building a coherent ecosystem where every touchpoint has a clear audience and purpose.
- Build scalable multimedia formats, franchises and premium IP that grow audience reach, strengthen brand affinity and create commercial opportunity.
- Lead the development of a direct-to-audience strategy, with the app and owned platforms at the centre of building habitual audience relationships, deeper engagement and subscription growth.
- Shape a compelling digital vision that goes beyond content distribution creating a destination audiences return to habitually through personalisation, utility, community, exclusive experiences and innovative storytelling.
- Drive audience growth across owned and third-party platforms including You Tube, Spotify, Instagram, social, aggregator and emerging channels.
- Develop platform-native storytelling and distribution strategies rooted in audience behaviour, data insight and changing consumption trends.
- Use analytics, audience insight and performance data to optimise commissioning, distribution, engagement and conversion across the ecosystem.
- Manage and deliver budget and commissioning processes in line with business value.
- Oversee the development of modern production workflows, AI-assisted processes and scalable content operations that improve both efficiency and creative quality.
- Partner closely with product and technology teams to align content strategy with audience, subscription and business goals.
- Work in unison with commercial teams to ensure vision and product reflect and leverage market reality and respond to commercial opportunities.
Requirements
- Significant senior leadership experience within a publisher, broadcaster, entertainment brand or digital media business.
- Proven success building and scaling multimedia brands, channels or content ecosystems across video, audio, social and digital publishing.
- Deep understanding of modern audience behaviour, platform ecosystems and evolving content consumption trends.
- Strong editorial instincts and storytelling judgement, with experience developing compelling multimedia formats and franchises.
- Strong understanding of You Tube, Tik Tok, Instagram, podcast ecosystems, streaming platforms and owned digital products.
- Experience building direct audience relationships through apps, subscriptions, registration, CRM or owned-platform strategies.
- Demonstrated success leading organisational transformation and building collaborative multidisciplinary teams.
- Commercially aware and highly data literate, with the ability to translate audience insight and performance analytics into strategic action.
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, from defining vision to improving workflows and delivery.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted production workflows, audience personalisation and emerging digital media technologies.
- Excellent stakeholder leadership skills with the ability to align editorial, creative, product and commercial teams around shared priorities.
