Remove, repair, overhaul, install and align main propulsion machinery and associated equipment/components. Also remove, repair, overhaul, install and align equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps, various types of valves, cargo handling machinery, anchor handling gear, boat davits, cranes, elevators, conveyors, firefighting equipment, machine shop equipment, galley, and laundry equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ships armament.
- Install, adjust, set, and repair or replace various control/regulating or safety devices such as meters, gages, valves, governors and automatic alarms.
- Test or assist in testing of shipboard machinery pierside or on sea trials to prove satisfactory operation and acceptance.
- Install ship machinery, for example propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gear, working from blueprints and using handtools, calipers, and micrometers.
- Install below-deck auxiliaries, for example evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers and connect them to steam pipe systems.
- Test and inspect installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
- Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
- Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
- Follow all safety rules and quality standards.
- Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Report any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her abilities and have a dependable work ethic.
- Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form including but not limited to safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
Education And Experience
- High school graduate, or GED.
Working Conditions
- Within the shipyard, minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery.
- Some travel required.
