Reports To: Risk/ESH Manager and Regional ESH Supervisor (directly) and Project Manager (at job-sites)

Pay Range: $24.00-$30.00 Per Hour DOE

Summary of Position: Responsible for all aspects of Safety and Environmental requirements required for International Marine and Industrial Applicators, LLC (IMIA) during the accomplishment of work.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Inspects work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with customer, company, state, and federal safety and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Conduct and document safety inspections.
  • Communicate safety and environmental requirements to individuals and employee groups.
  • Formulate, track and conduct routine project safety and environmental training.
  • Citing dangerous areas/operations and report same to onsite and offsite management.
  • Conducting incident investigations.
  • Ability to determine root cause of discrepancies.
  • Recommend corrective procedures.
  • Determine safety related trends.
  • Ensuring safety equipment supply and availability is provided.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures with regards to safety and environmental policies and regulations.

Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works directly for the IMIA Risk/ESH Manager and ESH Supervisor with daily reporting to the IMIA Project Manager assigned to the project being accomplished. Primary job function typically requires exercising independent judgment.

Required Education: High School graduate and capable of taking written verbal direction. Ability to read and write with understanding. Minimum computer experience required to include Microsoft Office suite products and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to communicate orally in an effective manner.

Required Experience: Formal or informal on the job training and 2-years' experience in the Shipbuilding/Ship Repair Industry or Maritime Safety Industry. Prefer candidates with Marine Coating and Hot Work experience. Must have thorough knowledge of federal and State local regulations within the marine industry. Entry level position, under the guidance of a more senior ESH Technician must demonstrate the ability to quickly and accurately absorb and retain the information and experience imparted.

Required Skills: Must be able to read and interpret documents relevant to customer, company, local, state and federal safety & environmental regulations as necessary; such as contract specifications, safety & environmental rules and regulations, procedures, etc. Must be able to work cooperatively and productively with other employees and facility owner/customer personnel. Must be able to carry out instructions furnished in oral, written, or diagram form.

Physical Requirements: Regularly required to walk; frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl; occasionally required to sit; required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip, or handle; regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, or more infrequently; required use of vision to see up close, distance, and peripherally, as well as depth perception and ability to adjust focus; required to enter production areas which include use of respirators, confined space entry, and working from heights.

Working Conditions: Most work performed will be onboard a ship, in a dry dock or shipyard under fast-paced conditions; frequently requiring overtime. Consistent exposure to outdoor elements, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals and dusty conditions.
