As the Pre-setter, you will be responsible for setting tooling for various machines by taking information from tool sheets & setting sheets, then using a pre-setter machine to record dimensions to be transferred to CNC machine tools. This is an important role, as you will be responsible for producing work to a high quality controlled standard within the various industries IMI Precision operates. The post holder will be expected to work individually as well as part of the team to achieve their ambitions and the ambitions of IMI Precision.
- Select the correct tooling and holding devices from the tool sheet and tool management system.
- Build tooling to the instruction on the tool sheets / setting sheets.
- Build in quality checks when building tooling, checking for cleanliness, damaged and compromised tooling.
- Operate a preset machine to record tooling information to transfer to CNC machine tools.
- Break down the used tooling ensuring tooling is clean & in good condition and relocate in the correct locations.
- Select the correct inspection equipment for manufacture.
- Read engineering drawings.
- Operate machine tools when required, changing inserts, machine offsets and carry out own 1st off inspection.
- Check and complete the necessary quality documentation.
- Ensure tooling and gauging are maintained to a high quality standard.
- Perform other such duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as may be reasonably required.
Critical Competencies for Success:
- Experience of running Machine Tools including exposure to setting tooling.
- Ideally apprenticeship trained in Mechanical engineering.
- PC Literate.
- Methodical, logical, organised and high attention to detail is a must.
