IMH Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Waste Collection LGV Driver (Category C) to join a busy household waste collection service for our client in Barnsley. This is a primarily driving role operating a 26-tonne refuse collection vehicle, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering essential council services across the borough. The Role You will ensure the safe and efficient completion of daily waste collection routes while supervising waste crews and maintaining high standards of health, safety, and customer service. Key Responsibilities * Drive and operate a Class 2 refuse collection vehicle (up to 26 tonnes) * Supervise waste collection crews and manage daily operational activities * Ensure all household waste collections are completed safely and on schedule * Carry out loading duties when required * Maintain accurate paper or electronic records using handheld devices * Ensure the health and safety of crew members, colleagues, and members of the public * Safely operate mechanical machinery for emptying refuse containers * Take responsibility for the daily cleanliness, security, and basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment * Deliver a polite, professional, and customer-focused service to residents * Work flexibly to meet service demands and changing priorities * Train, guide, and support other employees, apprentices, or trainees when required * Comply with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures including the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, CPC requirements, and council policies * Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as requested by management Working Pattern & Overtime * Tuesday to Friday, 6:00am – 3:45pm * £16.35 per hour. * Required to work Good Friday * Overtime available during Christmas catch-up periods (Saturday and Monday), paid at overtime rates Essential Requirements * Valid UK driving licence Category C (Class 2) * Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) * Ability to work in all weathers and carry out physically demanding tasks * Strong understanding of health and safety in an operational environment * Good communication skills and a positive, professional attitude * Able to provide reference contact information for any jobs worked in the last 3 years. Desirable / Willingness to Undertake * Experience in waste management * Experience supervising teams (Team Leader / Foreman or similar) * Manual Handling, Needle Stick, and IOSH Working Safely training (or willingness to undertake) * Willingness to complete the Council’s Leadership Programme * Commitment to ongoing training and professional development.
