Who We Are: Frieze is the world’s leading platform for modern and contemporary art, dedicated to artists, galleries, collectors, and art lovers alike. Frieze comprises three magazines – frieze, Frieze Masters Magazine, and Frieze Week – and seven international art fairs – Frieze London, Frieze Masters, Frieze New York, Frieze Los Angeles, Frieze Seoul, The Armory Show, and EXPO Chicago. Legacy art fair brands The Armory Show and EXPO Chicago were acquired by Frieze in September 2023. In October 2021, Frieze also launched No.9 Cork Street, a permanent space for visiting international galleries in Mayfair, London.

What You'll Do: We are seeking a Sub-editor to copyedit and proofread print and digital content, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and high standards in publishing.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Copyediting and fact-checking all columns and features for frieze magazine
  • Copyediting and fact-checking exhibition reviews for frieze.com
  • Assisting with copyediting content for frieze.com and other magazines when not working on reviews or articles
  • Proofreading final files for EXPO Art Week and Armory Art Week and incorporating corrections into InDesign
  • Collaborating on proofreading content for frieze.com, print supplements, fair publications, and one-off print products
  • Entering proofing changes and communicating design issues with the design team

Production:

  • Supporting coordination and layout of EXPO Art Week and Armory Art Week with the Content Operations Manager and Editor
  • Monitoring and updating the Frieze style guide in collaboration with cross-departmental teams

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience in copyediting and proofreading arts and culture publications
  • Strong understanding of clear, concise, and articulate writing
  • Meticulous attention to written and visual details
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage projects
  • Native or bilingual proficiency in English
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, and Mac OS

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in magazine publishing production
  • Familiarity with Notion
