The Position

Production Supervisor / Day Captain - Drying

Location: Rocks or Treviscoe Dryer, Cornwall

Business Area: Performance Minerals EMEA

Salary: Up to Β£43,960 per annum, depending on experience, plus 72 shift allowance of Β£4,174.82

The role

Imerys is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor / Day Captain to support the safe and efficient operation of its drying assets at the Rocks or Treviscoe site. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone comfortable working on the plant, leading teams on shift and taking responsibility for day-to-day production performance. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will supervise dryer operations to ensure production targets are met safely and consistently, while maintaining high standards of quality, environmental compliance and people management. This is a permanent, full-time position working a 72 shift pattern of 12-hour day shifts, averaging 38.5 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day dryer operations, including production planning, manpower planning and material handling
  • Coordinate production activity to achieve agreed tonnage and performance targets
  • Lead operational excellence activity on site, including Opex and I-Cube initiatives
  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety and environmental standards
  • Manage LOTOTO documentation, permits and risk assessments
  • Manage incidents and near misses, ensuring actions and learning are completed
  • Supervise, lead and motivate 12-15 indirect reports
  • Plan and manage holiday and sickness cover to maintain operational continuity
  • Deliver Toolbox Talks, Take 5s and Safety Stand Downs
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, legislation and Imerys EHS and quality standards

What we are looking for

This role would suit an experienced Production Supervisor or Shift Supervisor from a manufacturing, processing or industrial environment who enjoys being close to operations and leading from the front. You will bring a strong safety mindset, practical leadership experience and the confidence to engage, support and challenge teams while delivering continuous improvement.

Experience and qualifications

  • Experience supervising production teams within a safety-critical environment
  • Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health, Safety and Environmental Management (Extractive and Minerals Processing), or willingness to work towards or similar
  • IOSH Managing Safely, or willingness to attain
  • Continuous improvement training (Green Belt or similar) is desirable
  • People management or leadership training is beneficial
  • Good IT skills with experience using operational systems
  • Valid license to drive in the UK
