About Our Opportunity
We’re looking for a Mechanical Multi‑Skilled Fitter to join our mining maintenance team across sites in Central Cornwall. This practical, outdoor role focuses on maintaining and improving large fixed‑plant mining equipment – conveyors, pumps, screens and steel structures. You’ll be involved in planned, preventive and reactive maintenance, as well as supporting installations and process improvement projects. Working as part of a small, close‑knit team, you’ll help ensure assets operate safely, reliably and in line with Imerys health, safety, environmental and quality standards. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, fault‑finding across disciplines and working in a challenging outdoor environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintenance & fault finding
- Carry out corrective, breakdown and preventive maintenance on mining fixed plant
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults, with electrical and instrumentation exposure
- Work on large‑scale conveyors, pumping systems and processing equipment
- Installations & improvements
- Support the installation of new equipment
- Assist with process modifications and improvement projects
- Provide engineering support across site maintenance activities
- Safety, quality & compliance
- Work in line with Imerys Safe Working Rules, procedures and Local Management Rules
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards
- Apply strong HSE and Quarry / Mining regulations awareness
- Ensure work areas remain clean, safe and hazard‑free
- Teamworking & site environment
- Work outdoors in an industrial mining environment
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance and operational teams
- Carry out work at height and occasional confined‑space activities

Essential
- Mechanical fitting experience in mining, quarrying or heavy industrial environments
- NVQ Level 3 in Multiskilled Engineering (or willingness to achieve)
- Knowledge of conveyors, pumps and processing equipment
- Strong health, safety and environmental awareness
- Licensed to drive in the UK
Desirable
- Welding experience (MMA / MIG)
- Experience with large steel structures
- Background in aggregates, quarrying or heavy manufacturing
