We are looking for a passionate and creative full-time Principal to join our supportive team. The candidate should have an understanding of Autism and its challenges and be able to support in designing and organising a differentiated curriculum.

About the Role

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Principal to work with us in our School based in Barrowmore, Barrow, Chester. The school is a small provider, registered for up to 20 pupils. We provide the highest quality of educational services for students aged 7 to 19 years of age. The students are at the centre of everything we do. Our dedicated staff provide first-class support. The education, health, and care work in partnership and we pride ourselves on having strong relationships in place with parents, carers and funders. This tried and tested approach ensures every iMap student reaches their optimum level of achievement. The school is an incredible place for children with complex needs arising from autism, behaviour difficulties and learning difficulties to thrive, learn new skills, grow in confidence and make new friends.

We are currently looking for an inspirational and creative Principal to lead the supportive education team at iMap Centre. Someone who:

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate strong leadership skills and inspiration, and invite applications from both experienced senior leaders and those with significant middle leadership experience. Reporting to the Director of Care and Education, you will be responsible for providing professional vision and leadership for the school which secures its success and improvement ensuring high-quality education for all its pupils and improved standards of learning and achievement. The Principal will be responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school. You will be a member of the Education Senior Management Team. You will manage staff and resources in the school and play a role in the direction of the education in regards to formulating and reviewing development plans, progress and aims and objectives of the school.

If you have Autism or alternative provision experience that will be an advantage, but not essential. You will lead on accreditation working with ASDAN and NOCN.

iMap Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. It is expected that you will be the Designated Safeguard Lead for Children. All positions will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service including obtaining references. Requirements

The professional duties of a principal shall include:

  • School Aims: Formulating the overall aims and objectives of the school and policies for their implementation.
  • Strategic direction and development of the school: Leading by example, providing educational vision and direction to secure the strong passionate commitment of staff, parents/carers and pupils.
  • Management of Staff: Deploying and managing all teaching and non-teaching staff and allocating particular duties to them in a manner consistent with their conditions of employment, maintaining a reasonable balance for each teacher between work carried out in school and work carried out elsewhere.
  • Curriculum: Determining, organising and implementing a broad and balanced curriculum for the school, having regard to the needs, experiences, interests, aptitudes and stage of development of the pupils and the resources available to the school.
  • Review: Ensuring that all aspects of school performance are monitored and evaluated in a robust, cyclical manner and maintaining a record of self-evaluation and areas for improvement, and of progress made in respect of these.
  • Standards of Teaching and Learning: Supervising and participating in arrangements for the appraisal of all staff in the school.
  • Pupil Progression: Ensuring that the progress of pupils of the school is monitored and recorded.
  • Pastoral Care: Ensuring that the health and wellbeing of children is encouraged through a nurturing environment.
  • Inclusion: Promoting equality and inclusion in all aspects of school life.
  • Discipline: Ensuring that proper standards of behaviour are implemented.
  • Relationships with parents/Carers: Making arrangements for parents/carers to be given regular information about the school curriculum, the progress of their children and other matters affecting the school.
  • Resources: Allocating, controlling and accounting for those financial and material resources of the school which are under the control of the Principal.
  • Safeguarding: Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people they are responsible for or come into contact with.
  • Health and Safety: Ensuring the health and safety of all children, staff, parents/carers and visitors.
