We are seeking talented postdoctoral researchers to take up this exciting Research Fellowship opportunity in applied mathematics at the Mathematical Institute. This position is associated with a Junior Research Fellowship at Brasenose College.

Candidates for the Fellowship should have research interests compatible with those of the existing faculty in the following research groups: mathematical biology, mathematical and computational finance, numerical analysis, machine learning and data science or the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (OCIAM).

The successful candidates will be based at the Mathematical Institute, and carry out teaching duties for the Stanford in Oxford programme at Brasenose College. The successful applicant will be a talented researcher, who has already produced excellent research during their PhD and in any postdoctoral positions. Securing a Fellowship will offer you the freedom to conduct your own research programme.

To aid the development of their academic profile and to support the department, Fellows will be required to develop and deliver one seminar course (usually 2 contact hours per week) in an agreed topic of applied Mathematics for Stanford in Oxford students during each of the three 10-week Terms when students are resident. In addition to this, Fellows will deliver one online research seminar to Stanford University each academic year during the appointment.

Candidates will be expected to have a completed doctorate in mathematics or a related discipline by the start date of the position. Candidates who have not yet been awarded their doctorate should provide the date they expect to submit their thesis in their supporting statement. They should also show evidence of independence and the ability to undertake research of the highest academic standard, hold an outstanding record of papers published in major international journals (commensurate with career stage), and have a realizable and relevant research plan which would enhance the research profile of the Mathematical Institute.

Additional information about this post, including the selection criteria is available in the job description. We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award.

Please note: Applicants are responsible for asking two referees to send their reference letters directly to references@maths.ox.ac.uk by the advertised closing date. Full details are contained in the job description. Only applications received before 12.00 noon UK time on 4 March 2026 will be considered.
