Overview
Support Workers will provide hands-on care and assistance with Elijah\’s daily routines and personal care needs.
Responsibilities
- PEG feeding and suctioning
- Monitoring and recording health status and observations
- Administering medication (including emergency medications)
- Supporting mobility via hoisting
- Assisting with therapies and promoting engagement in activities
This role suits someone with a clinical care background, ideally with experience working in a family home and supporting children with complex needs. The ideal candidate will be calm, proactive, and enthusiastic, able to promote Elijah\’s learning, care, and independence in both the home and community.
Registered Nurse Role
We are also recruiting Registered Nurses (Band 6 or experienced Band 5) to join Elijah\’s care team. This role is ideal for nurses with paediatric experience or a background in complex care. Nurses will:
- Provide clinical oversight and escalation where needed
- Monitor health status and interpret clinical observations
- Administer medications, including emergency interventions
- Support the implementation and review of care plans
- Liaise with the Case Manager and Team Leader on clinical matters
- Contribute to training and mentoring of support staff
This is a rewarding opportunity for a nurse who is confident working in a home setting, able to work autonomously within a team, and committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Our Case Managers work closely with our Clients; we carry out all recruitment processes on behalf of our Clients and will support you from the initial telephone interview through to arranging employer interviews, trial shifts and placement. If you are recruited, you will be employed directly by our client. However, ILS will manage your day-to-day employment, providing the support you need to carry out your role. Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client\’s care needs.
Experience and Qualifications
- Experience supporting children with complex needs
- Experience working in a family home
- Confident with PEG feeding, suctioning, manual handling (using a hoist), epilepsy management, and administering medication including emergency medications (Midazolam and Diazepam)
- Comfortable working in a client\’s own home and sensitive to family needs
- Willing to carry out therapy programmes (physiotherapy, speech and language, occupational therapy)
- Aptitude and desire to work with children with complex needs
- Flexible, proactive, and able to use initiative
- Patient, tolerant, cheerful, caring, and positive attitude
- Reliable, trustworthy, and a good communicator
- Water confident and willing to participate in outdoor activities
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills and confident using IT
- Non-smoker – this post operates a non-smoking environment
- Essential (Nurses Only):
- Registered Nurse (Band 6 or experienced Band 5) with valid NMC registration
- Experience in paediatric or complex care nursing
- Skilled in clinical observations, care planning, and escalation protocols
- Confident in administering medication including emergency medications
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Desirable:
- Experience working waking nights
- Experience working with children with special needs
- Full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed)
- Experience in community or home-based nursing
- Knowledge of safeguarding and clinical governance
- Experience mentoring or training care staff

Salary and Benefits
- Waking Nights (Nurses): Monday to Sunday, 19:45-09:00
- Sleeping Nights (Support Worker): Monday to Sunday, 19:45-09:00
- After school Shifts (Nurse/Support Worker): Monday to Friday, 15:30-20:00
- Weekends (Nurse/Support Worker): 08:45-20:00
- Support Workers: £17.14-£19.28/hour
- Registered Nurses (Band 6 or experienced Band 5): £24.00-£25.00/hour
- Sleeping nights paid at NLW
- 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata

Notes

Elijah, born in 2013, lives at home with his mother and sees his father and grandmother at weekends. He has Cerebral Palsy affecting all four limbs and communication difficulties, a gastrostomy, and requires suctioning at times. All transfers require hoisting with assistance from two carers. You will be joining a care team within a family home, taking direction from Elijah\’s mother, the Case Manager, and the Team Leader to ensure Elijah receives the care he needs.
