Support Workers in Basildon

We are seeking patient and caring Support Workers to join the existing care team for our client, who was born in 1998. Our client is a young adult who lives at home with her mother and brother who are very important to her. She really enjoys listening to hip hop and R&B music and watches soap operas and Peppa Pig on TV. She attends church every Sunday and especially enjoys hearing the singing. Our client and her family are well known in the church community. She also attends a day centre twice a week where she enjoys activities such as baking, crafts, and games. Our client has many friends and local family that she attends birthday parties and outings with. At birth, our client sustained injuries causing Cerebral Palsy, she has limited mobility so requires assistance for all transfers, where possible, exercises and stretches are incorporated into her daily life. She has gastric reflux and can endure severe abdominal pain and at times is unable to leave her bed. She can eat soft foods and drink thin liquids and is able to swallow her medication in tablet form. She has a live-in carer who has been with the family for over 10 years and due to the complexity of her disabilities requires 2:1 care for some activities. Our clients needs overnight can vary, some nights requiring regular, hourly checks and other nights she may sleep for 4hrs+ at a time. She has an alert system and can shout for attention when needed overnight. It is expected that when not directly needed by the client, night staff complete a list of household tasks to assist the running of the household and smooth handover of care to daytime staff.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To meet all personal care needs of the client and encourage her to participate
• Provide domestic assistance to promote a healthy, clean and safe environment
• Administration of medication
• Awareness of emotional, behavioural and communication difficulties as a result of our client's condition
• Effective communication and ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth and compassion within a dedicated care team, Our Case Managers work closely with our Clients, and we carry out all the recruitment processes on behalf of our Clients; and will support you, from your initial telephone interview right through to arranging employer interviews, trial shifts and placement.

If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client. However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role. Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.

• Female due to providing personal care
• Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
• Experience of working with children/adults with Cerebral Palsy (This is preferred but enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is desirable).
• Confident and comfortable working in our client's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family

Desirable

• Experience of and qualifications in caring for young people with severe disabilities
• Experience of carrying out therapy programmes.
• Previous experience of using specialist equipment
• Experience of writing risk assessments and care plans.
• NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
• Own car - desirable

Hours

• 1x Support Worker to cover, Monday, Thursday and Friday nights 9.00pm to 9.00am.
• 1x Support Worker to cover Tuesday and Wednesday Nights 9.00pm to 9.00am and Sundays 9.00am to 9.00pm - these timings are approximate and flexibility will be required particularly during school holiday periods.
• Bank Support Workers are also required to cover absences of current team members.

Pay

• £14.50 per hour, Monday to Friday (Days),
• £15:50 per hour, Weekends and Bank holidays (Days)
• £15.50 per hour, Monday to Friday (Waking Nights, 10:00pm to 6.00am),
• £16.50 per hour Weekends, (Waking Nights, 10:00pm to 6.00am), 5.6 weeks holiday (pro rata)
