Join our ground-breaking, dynamic Breaking the Chains team as an Immigration Solicitor or Senior Caseworker. The Migrant and Refugee Children’s Legal Unit at Islington Law Centre has a much-respected Immigration Team. We are a Peer Review category 1 Legal Aid Immigration provider and we have considerable experience across the range of immigration and asylum work, running cases at all levels of the Tribunal and Court system including the Administrative Court, and the Court of Appeal.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a junior lawyer to build a rewarding career on a pioneering project recognised for its innovation and real impact for children and young people in the asylum and immigration system. MiCLU’s Breaking the Chains project is a unique partnership with Shpresa Programme, designed to meet the specific needs of asylum-seeking children and young people from Albania through a holistic, child-centred and child-friendly legal service.
The post holder will gain hands-on experience representing Albanian children and young people in asylum, immigration and trafficking matters, in cases that are central to challenging regressive legislation and policy for the wider benefit of asylum claimants. The role offers excellent scope to develop advocacy, case preparation and strategic litigation skills, alongside specialist expertise in child-centred and trauma-informed practice. You will also work closely with young people with lived experience of the asylum system, helping to shape meaningful change.
We are an expanding practice, with ten solicitors and caseworkers working in immigration at the Law Centre. This is a supportive, collaborative team where junior lawyers can learn from experienced colleagues, develop confidence in complex casework and build expertise within a nationally respected practice.
We are looking for a candidate accredited at Senior Caseworker level under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme, with the ability to work outside office hours from time to time to meet the needs of our young clients. Islington Law Centre is an equal opportunities employer, committed to increasing diversity in our organisation and the wider profession. We warmly welcome applications from people from groups currently or historically underrepresented in the legal sector.
Salary: £38,500 to £42,309 depending on experience. Annual leave: 29 days plus bank holidays.
