Content and Marketing Assistant (Luxury Sector)

Content and Marketing Assistant (Luxury Sector)

Illustrated London News Limited (and owner of SPHERE Magazine)

Background on ILN

Illustrated London News (ILN) is a luxury content marketing agency and publisher of two owned titles, SPHERE and The Illustrated Royalty in Britain. We specialise in the luxury, premium and heritage sectors. Our services range from content creation, publishing, social media, advertising sales, marketing, branding, email marketing, PR, events etc. We are a boutique agency with a small team, supported by regular freelancers. Our clients range from a super-yacht management company to a global premium fruit distributor to The Lord Mayor’s Show. We work partly from Soho Works (shared working space) in London and remotely. SPHERE is an established magazine (print and digital) focused on luxury, London and travel, covering lifestyle, culture, travel destinations, hotels, food and drink, fashion, property, interior design, watches, jewellery, beauty and tech. ILN has an extraordinary heritage dating back to 1842.

The Role

This is a new role, due to our expansion. As Content and Marketing Assistant for Illustrated London News, you will work on digital channels for SPHERE Magazine, including the website, social channels and weekly email newsletter. As well as SPHERE, you will work across projects and client accounts across the agency, ranging from digital marketing to social media to event management. You are also likely to get involved with SPHERE print (quarterly publication).

You will work on all elements of the content lifecycle of SPHERE digital, including research, content planning, writing, picture research, proofreading, publishing on CMS, email marketing and social media. We are currently growing SPHERE digital through areas including newsletter subscription, social profiles and commercial partnerships, and you will play a key role in our expansion.

You will support across the agency’s client accounts. We are known for the high quality and execution of our content and our intelligent outlook on luxury/premium/heritage sectors.

This is a varied, interesting role, where you can grow. It’s unlikely that any two days will be the same! We are looking for a switched-on, can-do team player, with a hunger to learn and succeed. You will have admin or office tasks thrown at you, such as taking minutes in meetings, database research or helping out at events.

You will work closely with the Content and Marketing Executive on a daily basis and also with other members of the team, including the CEO/owner.

You will work mainly from Soho Works shared offices at 180 Strand in the West End and The Tea Building in Shoreditch, alongside the Content and Marketing Executive, and occasionally with others including the CEO and Associate Editor. It will involve occasional face-to-face meetings and interactions with clients and other colleagues. You may be invited to attend PR events out of hours. Some remote working is possible.

Requirements

  • Experience in journalism, communications, marketing, agency or similar
  • Excellent copywriting, both editorial and for clients. Snappy and engaging style
  • An undergraduate degree. You may have a post-graduate degree in journalism/media, marketing or communications, but not required. Willingness to roll up sleeves – there will be mundane tasks we just have to get done
  • Know your social media platforms, especially Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok, with an eye for what works in online content creation
  • A basic understanding of different marketing channels
  • Confidence and polish in communications, whether with colleagues or externally, including clients and PRs – effective email style and telephone manner
  • A creative eye – for imagery, reels and social media content
  • An eagle eye – your own copy needs to be accurate and will not require proofreading. We require attention to detail, with grammatical and spelling perfection
  • Ability to work unsupervised and with direction. Multi-tasking is a must!

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support on SPHERE across channels – including online articles, weekly newsletter and social media content
  • Support client accounts on marketing workstreams – including client liaison, content creation and researching content across channels

  • Create content suitable for SPHERE online – luxury, London, culture, travel, restaurants, food and drink, restaurants, fashion, jewellery, watches, beauty
