Learning Manager (Families & Schools) – 6‑Month Contract

Salary: £34,063 per annum Hours: 35 per week Location: Docklands area, with blended working (minimum 4 days onsite) Contract: Fixed term – 6 months

A leading cultural organisation in the Docklands area is seeking a Learning Manager to join its dynamic Learning team. This role plays a key part in shaping and delivering high‑quality learning experiences for schools, families and community audiences, both onsite and through outreach.

You will lead the planning and operational delivery of the organisation’s family programme, including two major multi‑event weekend festivals each year. Working closely with colleagues across Learning, Engagement, Marketing and Digital, you’ll ensure programmes are creative, inclusive, well‑managed and engaging for diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a varied programme of onsite, outreach and online activities for schools and families.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of two large weekend family festivals in collaboration with the Engagement team.
  • Oversee family programming, ensuring events are risk assessed, delivered on time and to budget, and meet agreed objectives.
  • Support coordination of school groups onsite, including problem‑solving and checking in with freelancers and volunteers.
  • Manage project budgets and produce quarterly forecasts.
  • Evaluate programmes and use insights to inform future development.
  • Work with Communications, Marketing and Digital colleagues to ensure programmes are effectively promoted.
  • Commission and manage freelancers and casual workers, ensuring high‑quality delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of new learning activities and resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners involved in programme development or delivery.
  • Support online learning content and ensure information is kept up to date.
  • Act as an advocate for learning work internally and externally.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience developing and delivering high‑quality activities or resources for families within heritage, arts or education settings.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, partners and varied audiences.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of schools and families, including up‑to‑date knowledge of the national curriculum and creative approaches to interpretation.
  • Commitment to anti‑racist practice and embedding diversity and inclusion in all work.
  • Highly organised, detail‑focused and able to work well under pressure.
  • Appreciation of the sensitivities involved in community‑focused programming and partnership work.
  • Experience commissioning and managing freelancers, casual workers or external contractors.

Additional Information

This role requires regular weekend working, with up to ten weekend days expected across the contract (time off in lieu provided). A security check is required for this position.
