A national professional membership body within the engineering sector is looking for a Business Development Manager to strengthen engagement across its community and support the growth of membership, partnerships, and industry presence. This is an opportunity to join a small, collaborative core team where you’ll shape processes, build relationships across industry and academia, and help drive strategic development. The role reports directly to the Chief Executive and offers scope to influence how the function evolves.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing approaches and activities that support strategic goals for membership growth and stakeholder engagement.
  • Building strong relationships with member‑led groups, committees, and volunteers, providing structure and support to help them grow their networks.
  • Identifying opportunities to represent the organisation publicly and promote membership and professional registration.
  • Seeking and developing partnerships with external organisations to enhance visibility and impact.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience in business development or membership development, ideally within a membership or professional body environment.
  • Ability to design and maintain effective communication systems across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience working with and supporting volunteers.
  • Confident communicator with excellent written skills and the ability to engage a wide range of audiences, including through public speaking.
  • Highly organised, detail‑driven, and comfortable managing your own workload in a small team.
  • Adaptable, able to juggle multiple priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK when required.
