As a Senior Systems Integration Engineer at Illumina, you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment to integrate, test and troubleshoot complex prototype DNA sequencing systems, with a strong focus on electrical and electronic subsystems. You will play a hands-on role in the development of early-stage and next-generation instruments, working at system level across electronics, embedded systems, hardware, firmware, software, fluidics and chemistry. A key part of the role is diagnosing complex system interactions, executing structured experiments, and driving issues to root cause in collaboration with cross-functional teams. This role is ideal for an electrical or electronics engineer who enjoys working with prototype hardware, system-level problem solving, and applying their skills to cutting-edge life-science instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities
- Hands-on integration, testing and troubleshooting of DNA sequencing systems, with particular focus on electrical and electronic subsystems
- Debugging and fault isolation of prototype hardware and embedded systems at system level
- System-level troubleshooting across electronics, firmware, software, fluidics, mechanics and chemistry
- Design, execution and documentation of system and electrical test plans
- Tracking, logging and communicating issues encountered during development
- Working effectively within cross-functional project teams (R&D, manufacturing, service, quality, marketing)
- Writing and maintaining test procedures and quality control documentation
- Supporting manufacturing by troubleshooting hardware and system-level integration issues
- Presenting technical findings and recommendations to engineering and scientific stakeholders
Required Background, Skills And Experience
- Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a closely related discipline
- Strong hands-on experience with electronic systems, embedded hardware, or prototype instrumentation
- Proven system-level troubleshooting skills on complex electromechanical systems
- Experience working on prototypes or early-stage development hardware
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment for system operation and troubleshooting
- Meticulous, detail-oriented approach with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable engaging in technical discussions across disciplines
- Ability to clearly document work and present findings to stakeholders
Desirable (nice-to-have) Experience
- Experience with fluidics, mechatronics, robotics or vision systems
- Exposure to NGS sequencing or sample preparation methods
- Experience working in regulated environments (ISO 13485, ISO 9001, GxP)
- Basic coding or scripting skills (e.g. Python, MATLAB, VB)
- Experience supporting manufacturing or design-for-manufacture activities
- Previous experience in genomics or life sciences is a plus, but not required.
