IMSA is committed to equity and excellence, including the active recruitment of students from all areas of Illinois. IMSA's PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse (CLED) students who have an interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. The program is open to Black or African American students, Latinx students, students who qualify for the national free or reduced‐price meal program, and students from rural Illinois counties. The PROMISE Program consists of three grade‐based experiences serving students 7th–9th grade. The 7th‐grade class is offered through the Dominican Chicago Pilsen Campus for students not enrolled in IMSA.
Program Dates and Details
- Expected work hours: Saturdays 8:30 AM – 10:00 PM
- Maximum number of participants: 7th Grade: 45
- Session Dates: February 7, February 21, March 7, March 21 (Virtual), April 4, April 18, May 2, May 16 (Virtual)
Program Schedule
- Three 60‐minute sessions per week, each consisting of approximately 15 students per group.
- Week schedule:
- Check‐In / Continental Breakfast 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM
- Class 1 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- Class 2 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
- Class 3 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Dismissal at 12:00 PM
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop a daily lesson plan, using approved original curriculum, previously used activities, or curriculum provided by the IMSA Outreach department.
- Lead lectures and hands‐on activities with assistance from student tutors.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment for participating students.
