The role As a Health & Safety Manager – North, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe, compliant and best-in‑class working environment across multiple sites. You will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety practices, working closely with stakeholders across the business to embed a strong safety culture and deliver against key performance objectives. This is a highly visible role where you will partner with operational teams, senior leaders and external bodies to drive compliance, reduce risk and promote sector‑leading health and safety standards. The role will involve regular travel across multiple sites in line with business needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting and embedding a strong health and safety culture across the business
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, policies and best practice
- Maintaining accurate accident and incident records, including statutory reporting requirements (e.g. RIDDOR)
- Leading the risk assessment programme and implementing effective control measures
- Developing and delivering health and safety training and education programmes
- Conducting regular inspections and audits, resolving issues and maintaining accurate records
- Managing health and safety aspects of facilities, equipment, and contractor activities
- Leading emergency planning, including evacuation drills and fire safety compliance
- Monitoring performance metrics and recommending improvements to drive continuous improvement
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external bodies, including regulators and auditors
- Ensuring the provision of appropriate PPE, first aid and welfare arrangements
- Supporting the achievement of business‑wide health and safety objectives
What we are looking for:
- A recognised health and safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH)
- Proven experience managing health and safety systems, ideally aligned to ISO 45001
- Strong knowledge of risk assessments, incident investigation and compliance requirements
- Experience delivering effective health and safety training programmes
- Good understanding of facilities management, contractor control and workplace safety
- Experience within warehousing, logistics or a similar operational environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational and record‑keeping skills with high attention to detail
- A proactive, self‑motivated and solution‑focused approach
- Flexibility, with the ability to travel nationally to support multiple sites as required
