We’re supporting a major national infrastructure programme and looking for a Transmission Engineer with solid SDH/PDH and microwave experience. You’ll be part of a busy operations centre responsible for monitoring and maintaining the transmission network that underpins critical national services. The role focuses on transport-layer stability, incident response and coordination with field teams and vendors.
What you’ll be doing:
- Monitoring and supporting SDH/PDH transmission systems across a multi-site estate
- Investigating alarms such as LOS, LOF, AIS, RDI, protection switching events and card-level faults
- Troubleshooting microwave radio links, including performance drops and path degradation
- Coordinating with field engineers for on-site diagnostics, swap-outs and corrective work
- Identifying physical-layer and transport-level faults and escalating appropriately
- Working within a 24/7 operations environment, documenting all actions clearly in tickets and reports
- Liaising with OEMs and internal engineering teams during major incidents
What you’ll bring:
- Hands-on experience with SDH/PDH transmission networks (e.g., Marconi, Nortel, Nokia/Transmode or similar)
- Strong background in microwave radio systems within telco or utilities environments
- Experience working in an operations centre, transmission NOC or similar fault-management function
- Practical understanding of legacy transport technologies and their alarm behaviours
- Active SC clearance or eligibility for immediate transfer
Shift & Contract Details:
- 5-week repeating pattern including evenings, nights and weekend shifts
- Standard weekday hours until the shift system goes live
- Outside IR35 contract
- Day rate aligned to experience
