This is a landlord role and supports tenants to maintain their tenancies only; it has nothing to do with the care and support side of supported living. As a leading provider of specialised supported housing, we are seeking a dedicated Housing Officer to join our team.

Location – DL4 area (Shildon/West Auckland/Ferryhill/Kirk Merrington area - Durham) – With travel required to Tankersley, South Yorkshire as required.

Working hours – 24 hours per week (we are more than happy to discuss flexible working patterns that fit these hours but no less than 3 days per week between Mon-Fri).

About this role: As a Housing Officer, you will serve as the primary point of contact for tenants, delivering both general and intensive housing management services. From tenancy sign‑ups to resolving tenancy related concerns, you will play a key role in maintaining thriving communities and ensuring high levels of tenant satisfaction. This is a remote, desk‑based role, with travel to properties required on an ad hoc basis as needed within the Durham County (Shildon, West Auckland, Ferryhill & Kirk Merrington area).

Key responsibilities:

  • Delivering housing management services, particularly for vulnerable tenants.
  • Handling general and intensive housing management responsibilities, including tenant engagement in relation to their tenancies and resolving any tenancy breaches.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including tenants, support providers and local authorities.
  • Ensuring delivery of excellent customer services tailored to individual tenant needs.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and partners to achieve shared objectives effectively.
  • Involvement with the delivery of anti‑social behaviour procedures.

About you:

To be successful in the role of Housing Officer you will need the following skills and experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience working with the Regulator of Social Housing Economic Standards.
  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service that meets individual needs.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve objectives.
  • Problem‑solving skills with a focus on customer service and satisfaction.
  • The ability to drive and have a reliable vehicle available to use for work purposes with business insurance.

Qualifications and experience:

Ideally have or be willing to work towards Level 3 in a CIH qualification in Housing Practice, including the following modules:

  • Delivery of housing services.
  • Involving housing service users.
  • Sustainable communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to travel to our Tankersley office once a month for a meeting and any additional travel to the offices for training sessions as required.
