About the school and city:
International House (IH) Newcastle is in a Grade I and II listed building. It has 16 classrooms with access to a large Personal Study Programme computer suite as well as a spacious students' room/café. The school is in the heart of the city, close to a wide choice of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. Working at our summer school in Durham is an exciting opportunity to be part of a well-established and supportive teaching environment while experiencing one of the most beautiful and historic regions of the UK. The summer programme is organised and run by International House Newcastle, so teachers are very much part of the wider IH Newcastle team rather than working for a separate standalone summer school. The programme is based at the historic Durham School, one of the oldest schools in England, giving the campus a traditional British atmosphere full of character and history. Durham itself is a safe, compact, and picturesque city, famous for Durham Cathedral, whose spectacular Norman architecture dominates the skyline above the river. The city offers a wonderful environment for both teachers and students during the summer months. Teachers will be supported by an experienced summer camp manager who is one of the long-term members of staff at International House Newcastle, helping to create a professional, welcoming, and well-organised atmosphere throughout the programme. As a recognised teacher training school, International House Newcastle places strong emphasis on teacher development and academic support. Working on the summer school is therefore not only a chance to teach international students, but also an excellent step in a teaching career, offering valuable classroom experience, professional development opportunities, and the chance to work within an experienced academic team. Teachers can also enjoy everything the wider North East and historic Northumbria have to offer, from dramatic coastlines and castles to lively cities and countryside. Nearby Newcastle upon Tyne provides a vibrant social and cultural base, known for its friendly atmosphere, restaurants, music, and nightlife, while day trips to Edinburgh, York, and other famous destinations make it easy to explore even more of northern Britain during the summer.
