£40,000–£42,000 depending on assessment service
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
No nights or weekends
Full-time roles are available, and part-time applications may also be considered.
We are recruiting Registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Paramedics and Pharmacists for permanent Functional Assessor opportunities in Weston-super-Mare, completing Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) functional health assessments.
The role is also commonly known as a Nurse Assessor, Disability Assessor or Functional Assessor. Paramedics and Pharmacists may be considered for PIP opportunities only.
You will complete structured assessments, review medical evidence and produce clear, evidence-based reports for the Department for Work and Pensions. This is an assessment and report-writing role rather than a hands-on clinical treatment position.
The role
For PIP assessments, you will explore how a health condition or disability affects daily living and mobility.
For WCA assessments, you will consider how a person’s health affects their functional capability for work or work-related activity.
Assessments may take place by telephone, online video appointment or face-to-face at the Weston-super-Mare assessment centre. You will review medical evidence, gather accurate information through structured questioning, apply your clinical knowledge and professional judgement, and produce clear, concise and evidence-based reports.
An honest picture of the role
This is a report-writing role as much as an assessment role. You will spend a significant part of the working day gathering detailed information, using IT systems and producing structured written reports.
You will not provide hands-on treatment, prescribe or deliver treatment, make medical diagnoses, provide medical advice or make the final decision on benefit entitlement.
Working pattern
This is a permanent hybrid role based between home and the Weston-super-Mare assessment centre at BS23 1JH.
The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with no nights, weekends or rotating shifts. Full-time roles are available, and part-time applications may also be considered. The vacancy is not fully remote.
Training
You will complete a comprehensive, full-time training programme before undertaking assessments independently.
Part-time applicants must be available for the initial full-time training period before moving to their agreed part-time hours.
Salary
The salary is £40,000–£42,000, depending on the assessment service.
Support throughout your application
You will not be left to navigate the application alone. iGo Recruitment will check your eligibility, confirm the nearest available assessment centre, explain the differences between PIP and WCA, and help you understand what the Functional Assessor role involves before you apply.
We will help you prepare professionally for each stage of the Serco interview process, keep you updated throughout your application and guide you through to offer and onboarding.
