£45,000–£48,000, depending on the assessment service
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
No nights or weekends
Full-time roles are available, and part-time applications may also be considered.
Use your clinical experience in a structured assessment and report-writing role with predictable weekday hours.
We are recruiting RGN, RMN and RNLD Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Paramedics and Pharmacists in Luton to complete functional health assessments for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services.
This Functional Assessor role is also known as a Disability Assessor, Clinical Assessor, PIP Assessor or WCA Assessor. You will review medical evidence, complete structured assessments and produce clear, evidence-based reports for the Department for Work and Pensions. This is a non-treatment role.
The role
For PIP assessments, you will explore how a health condition or disability affects daily living and mobility. For WCA assessments, you will consider how health affects functional capability for work or work‑related activity.
Assessments may take place by telephone, online video appointment or face‑to‑face at the local assessment centre. You will review medical evidence, gather accurate information through structured questioning, apply your clinical knowledge and professional judgement, and produce clear, concise and evidence‑based reports.
An honest picture of the role
This is a report‑writing role as much as an assessment role. A significant part of the working day involves gathering detailed information, using IT systems and producing structured written reports.
You will not provide hands‑on treatment, prescribe or deliver treatment, make medical diagnoses, provide medical advice or make the final decision on benefit entitlement.
Working pattern
This is a permanent hybrid role based between home and the Luton assessment centre at LU1 2UA.
The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with no nights, weekends or rotating shifts. Full‑time roles are available, and part‑time applications may also be considered. The vacancy is not fully remote.
Training
You will complete a comprehensive, full‑time training programme before undertaking assessments independently.
Part‑time applicants must be available for the initial full‑time training period before moving to their agreed part‑time hours.
Salary
The salary is £45,000–£48,000, depending on the assessment service.
Support throughout your application
iGo Recruitment will check your eligibility, confirm the nearest available assessment centre, explain the differences between PIP and WCA, and help you understand what the role involves before you apply.
We will help you prepare professionally for each stage of the Serco interview process, keep you updated throughout your application and guide you through to offer and onboarding.
