About the role
We are recruiting registered healthcare professionals to work as Functional Assessors, delivering Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services based in Guildford. This role offers an alternative to hands‑on clinical work, with a structured working environment and predictable hours. It focuses on carrying out assessments and producing written reports, rather than providing treatment or direct patient care. This role is suitable for Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Paramedics and Pharmacists with at least one year of post-registration experience.

- Salary: £39,500 to £42,000 plus bonus
- Location: Guildford assessment centre
- Working pattern: Monday to Friday, office hours only

Training
All roles require completion of a full‑time training programme. This is a minimum of 9 weeks but may be longer depending on individual progress or any periods of absence.
The role
You will carry out functional assessments for individuals applying for PIP or undergoing Work Capability Assessments. The focus is on understanding how a person’s health condition affects their day‑to‑day activities and ability to work. Assessments are completed using:
- Telephone
- Video consultation
- Face‑to‑face appointments (non‑clinical setting)
All assessments are pre‑booked and structured. Typical workload:
- PIP: around 3 assessments per day
- WCA: around 4 to 6 assessments per day
Responsibilities
- Carry out structured assessments using clinical judgement
- Review medical evidence and supporting information
- Produce clear, objective written reports
- Communicate professionally and sensitively with individuals being assessed
This role does not involve:
- Providing hands‑on care
- Diagnosing conditions
- Prescribing or delivering treatment
- Making decisions on benefit entitlement
- Working nights, weekends, or shifts
Requirements
- Registration as one of the following: Nurse (RGN / RMN / RNLD), Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Paramedic, Pharmacist
- Minimum 12 months post‑registration experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable using IT systems
- Right to work in the UK (sponsorship not available)
