Nurse Assessor | Hybrid | Office Hours £45,000 to £48,000 + bonus opportunities Monday to Friday No nights or weekends Hybrid working Location: Fareham, Hampshire Are you a registered Nurse looking to move away from shift work, long hours or hands-on care? This role offers predictable Monday-to-Friday office hours, hybrid working, no weekends and no night shifts, while allowing you to continue using your clinical skills and professional judgement in a structured environment. You will complete functional assessments and produce evidence-based reports that help decision makers understand how an individual's health condition or disability affects their daily life or ability to work. Full training and ongoing clinical support are provided throughout your journey. We are recruiting NMC-registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD) for PIP and WCA Functional Assessor opportunities in Fareham. This location may also suit clinicians travelling from Portsmouth, Gosport, Waterlooville, Havant, Southampton, Eastleigh, Winchester and surrounding areas. Interviews are taking place on a rolling basis for candidates who meet the essential requirements. Salary and progression PIP Functional Assessor: £45,000 starting salary, increasing to £46,000 after six months and £47,000 after 12 months WCA Functional Assessor: £48,000 starting salary, increasing to £49,000 after 12 months Graduation includes recognised approval by the UK Government Performance-related bonus Additional accreditation and overtime earning opportunities Salary increases are subject to successfully completing the relevant training, approval and performance requirements. The available assessment pathway will depend on the current vacancy, your professional background and operational requirements. Eligible professions This role is open to registered clinicians from the following professional backgrounds: Nurses: Registered General Nurse (RGN), Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) Physiotherapists Occupational Therapists Paramedics Pharmacists Applicants must hold current NMC, HCPC or GPhC registration, depending on their profession. This position is not suitable for Children’s Nurses, ODPs, Midwives or professions outside the list above. Physiotherapists must have at least one year of UK clinical experience. Location and working pattern The position is based at the Fareham assessment centre. You must be able to attend the assessment centre when required. Hybrid working involves a combination of office-based and remote working. This is not a fully remote position. The working pattern is: Monday to Friday Office hours only approximately (Apply online only) No night shifts No weekend working No rotating shift patterns The role You will use your clinical expertise to assess how health conditions and disabilities affect an individual’s daily life, mobility or functional capability for work. You will review medical evidence, conduct structured consultations and produce clear, evidence-based reports. Assessments are completed via: Telephone assessments Video meetings Face-to-face appointments in a non-clinical setting Depending on the available role, you will complete either: Personal Independence Payment assessments Work Capability Assessments This position does not involve hands-on treatment, prescribing or making benefit eligibility decisions. What you will do Carry out structured functional assessments using clinical judgement Review medical evidence and supporting documentation Produce accurate, objective and evidence-based written reports Use active listening to understand how health conditions affect daily life, functional tasks and more Apply clinical reasoning to the information gathered, evidence presented Communicate complex information clearly and sensitively Adapt your communication to individual claimant needs Support individuals with active listening, empathy and professionalism Work independently while meeting quality and productivity standards What you will not do Make diagnoses Provide treatment or prescribe medication Carry out hands-on clinical care Work nights, weekends or rotating shifts Make benefit eligibility decisions Re-visit the same case multiple times  What you will need Current professional registration with the NMC, HCPC or GPhC At least one year of post-registration clinical experience, ideally gained in the NHS Strong spoken and written communication skills Confidence conducting detailed telephone and video conversations The ability to explain your clinical reasoning clearly Confidence with report writing and structured work Good IT skills and attention to detail A typing speed of at least 35 words per minute The ability to work independently and manage deadlines The ability to attend the Fareham assessment centre when required The right to live and work in the UK without restriction Sponsorship is not available for this position.
