We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering complex projects within a highly regulated industry. This is a key technical leadership role supporting the development and delivery of major infrastructure, waste management, decommissioning, and facility improvement programmes.

The successful candidate will provide process engineering leadership and be responsible for developing high-level process engineering strategies, design documentation, and safety deliverables that underpin project execution. This role offers the opportunity to influence projects from concept through to implementation while working closely with engineering, safety, project management, and operational stakeholders.

Hybrid working arrangements are available, with regular attendance at project offices and engineering team locations required to support collaboration and programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of overarching process engineering documentation to support project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain key process engineering deliverables including:
    • Hazard Management Strategies
    • Basis of Design documents
    • Basis of Process Safety documentation
    • Design philosophies and engineering strategies
    • Process narratives and technical specifications
    • Engineering substantiation and supporting documentation
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support the identification, management, and mitigation of process safety risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Interface with safety case, mechanical, civil, electrical, control systems, and project management teams to ensure integrated delivery.
  • Facilitate and contribute to engineering reviews, design reviews, and hazard studies.
  • Ensure engineering outputs are compliant with applicable legislation, standards, quality requirements, and client specifications.
  • Manage technical approvals, governance processes, assurance activities, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support programme and project priorities across multiple workstreams where required.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree qualified (BEng/BSc or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience delivering process engineering design within highly regulated industries, such as:
    • Nuclear
    • Defence
    • Energy
    • Chemical Processing
    • Petrochemical
    • Pharmaceutical
  • Demonstrable experience developing Hazard Management Strategies and other high-level process engineering documentation.
  • Strong understanding of process safety principles and their application throughout the engineering design lifecycle.
  • Experience operating as a Designer under the CDM Regulations.
  • Knowledge of relevant national and international engineering codes, standards, regulations, and best practice.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical priorities in a complex project environment.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and technical reporting skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain security clearance appropriate to project requirements.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience supporting major infrastructure, waste management, decommissioning, or facility modification programmes.
  • Participation in hazard identification and risk assessment studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, ALARP assessments, and process safety reviews.
  • Familiarity with engineering management systems, design governance processes, and quality assurance frameworks.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional registration.
  • Previous experience working within a safety-case-driven environment.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing technical interfaces.
