We are seeking a highly capable CE&I Engineer to support major nuclear decommissioning programmes across the UK. You will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of control, electrical, and instrumentation systems within highly regulated environments, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety and engineering standards. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, supporting legacy plant decommissioning, waste handling systems, and new infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver CE&I engineering solutions across all project lifecycle phases, including concept, design, implementation, commissioning, and handover.
  • Produce and review technical documentation including:
  • Control system architecture designs
  • Instrumentation specifications and datasheets
  • Functional design specifications (FDS)
  • System requirement specifications (SRS)
  • Logic diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and control philosophies
  • Support safety-related systems including Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), interlocks, alarms, and protection systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards including IEC 61511, IEC 61508, and nuclear regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, process, and safety engineers.
  • Support hazard studies including HAZOP, HAZID, SIL assessments, and design reviews.
  • Provide technical input into commissioning, testing, and fault finding activities.
  • Contribute to design assurance, verification, and validation activities.
  • Support modification and upgrade of legacy control and instrumentation systems.
  • Key Skills & Experience

    Essential:

    • Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical, Electronic, Control & Instrumentation Engineering, or similar.
    • Experience delivering CE&I engineering within highly regulated industries (nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemical, or similar).
    • Strong understanding of control systems, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
    • Experience producing CE&I design documentation.
    • Knowledge of PLC-based control systems and industrial automation.
    • Familiarity with nuclear safety culture and engineering standards.

    Desirable:

    • Experience working on nuclear decommissioning projects.
    • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety principles.
    • Experience supporting SIL assessments and safety system design.
    • Experience with Sellafield or other UK nuclear licensed sites.
    • Chartered Engineer status or working towards.
