A well-established Groundworks & Civil Engineering contractor is looking to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team. With a strong reputation for delivering residential infrastructure, roads & sewers, earthworks and groundworks packages, the business continues to secure repeat work and long-term partnerships, creating an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to play a key role in its ongoing growth. This is a hybrid role, combining office-based commercial management with regular visits to live projects across Yorkshire.
Opportunity
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of several projects from pre-start through to final account. Working closely with the Commercial Manager, Contracts Managers and operational teams, you will be expected to take ownership of project performance, manage commercial risk and help maximise profitability across your portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Full commercial management of multiple groundworks and civil engineering projects.
- Preparation and submission of applications for payment.
- Production of monthly CVRs and cost forecasts.
- Management of project cash flow and profitability.
- Pricing, negotiating and agreeing variations.
- Procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Assessment and agreement of subcontractor accounts.
- Preparation and negotiation of final accounts.
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
- Attending client, commercial and site progress meetings.
- Carrying out regular site visits to monitor progress and support project teams.
- Working closely with Contracts Managers and Site Managers to ensure commercial and operational objectives are aligned.
- Providing support and guidance to junior members of the commercial team where required.
Required Experience & Skills
- Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor ready to step up.
- Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting and commercial reporting.
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts and final accounts.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience with residential infrastructure and housing development projects.
- Knowledge of Roads & Sewers, drainage, earthworks and groundworks packages.
- Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
