Hours: 2–4 hours per week (flexible, with additional hours available)
Location: John Harvard Library, London SE1 1JA
Wednesdays, during term-time (visit website for dates)
Time: 6:15pm to 7:15pm, with additional time required for set up and pack up
Pay: Up to £25 per hour depending on experience (PAYE or Freelance). Travelling time and travelling costs are covered.
Contract Length: Flexible but at least 6–12 months
About Ignite Hubs:
Ignite Hubs is an award-winning education charity for children and young people. We inspire the next generation of STEM innovators, creative thinkers, and digital whizzes. We target girls, those from disadvantaged backgrounds and ethnic minority backgrounds, as they are hugely underrepresented in the tech, STEM and creative industries. Our vision is a future where technology and innovation are shaped by diverse minds, truly reflecting the world we live in.
We currently teach coding, STEM, Maths and Creativity to over 200 students each week and have positively impacted more than 1,000 children and young people since we started. Our educational offering includes weekly online classes and in-person classes delivered in libraries across Southwark, SE London.
Alongside our live programmes, we are currently developing an innovative online Learning & Careers platform which not only provides access to our courses but also helps young people connect their learning to real-world careers and job opportunities. The platform will feature organisations and spotlights on real professionals in tech, STEM and creative roles.
The Role:
We are looking for a Creative Coding Instructor to teach our new creative coding class at John Harvard Library. You will join our friendly instructor team there. This role combines teaching, curriculum development, and the creation of learning resources. We are looking for someone who can help develop the course and its progression over future terms. Creative coding may include areas such as:
- interactive storytelling
- game design
- digital art
- creative web design
- music coding
- animation
- immersive digital experiences
There will be opportunities to support classes at other Southwark Libraries, depending on your availability and interest.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging creative coding sessions for children and young people
- Blend coding with storytelling, art, design, sound, or interactive media
- Develop projects and create resources
- Help shape future creative coding pathways and progression levels
- Contribute ideas for how the course can grow in future
What We're Looking For:
- Strong knowledge of at least one area of creative coding
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and engagingly
- Experience designing hands-on, project-based learning (desirable)
- Experience teaching or working with children and/or young people (desirable)
- Friendly, committed and reliable
Other Information:
We will carry out an Enhanced DBS check and ask for two references.
