About Ignite Hubs

Ignite Hubs is an award-winning education charity for children and young people. We inspire the next generation of STEM trailblazers, creative thinkers and digital innovators. We particularly aim to reach girls, children, and young people from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds. Our vision is a future where technology and innovation are shaped by diverse minds, truly reflecting the world we live in. We currently teach Coding, STEM, Maths and Creativity to around 200 students each week and have positively impacted over 2,000 children and young people since we started. Our educational offering includes weekly online classes alongside in-person programmes delivered in libraries across Southwark, South East London.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, proactive and enthusiastic Maths Programme Lead & Instructor to take ownership of the development and delivery of our Maths programme. We have already developed Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Maths courses for our Learning & Careers Hub. The next stage is to build high-quality live Maths classes around these courses and continue developing and improving the learning experience across both our live classes and digital platform.

A key ambition for the programme is to help children and young people feel more confident about Maths and develop a more positive relationship with the subject. We want to explore different ways of teaching Maths that resonate with young people, making it engaging, accessible and relevant to their lives. This includes helping learners understand how Maths is used in the real world and connecting mathematical concepts to their interests, everyday experiences, STEM subjects and future careers. We are therefore looking for someone who is excited about rethinking how Maths can be taught and experienced, rather than simply replicating traditional classroom teaching.

You will lead a small team of volunteer Maths instructors and contributors, providing direction and support while ensuring everyone is working towards shared programme priorities. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will not be expected to do everything yourself; an important part of the role is making effective use of the skills and experience within the volunteer team.

Teaching & Term Schedule

Our Maths classes are delivered online in the evenings, Monday to Thursday, typically as one-hour sessions starting at 5pm or 6pm. The specific teaching day and time can be agreed based on availability. We run three terms each year, Autumn, Spring and Summer, with each course consisting of eight weekly sessions. The Autumn 2026 term begins on 21st September 2026.

What We Are Looking For

  • Essential
    • A degree in Mathematics or a numerical subject.
    • Familiarity with at least the GCSE Mathematics National Curriculum.
    • Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring or supporting Maths learning in a formal or informal setting.
    • Ability to explain mathematical concepts in ways that are clear, accessible and engaging.
    • An interest in exploring different approaches to teaching Maths that help the subject resonate with children and young people.
    • Confidence leading and coordinating a small team.
    • Strong organisational and communication skills.
    • A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of developing the programme.
    • Comfortable working within a small, growing charity where programmes and processes are continuing to develop.
  • Desirable
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or another relevant teaching qualification.
    • Experience supporting students preparing for GCSE Maths.
    • Experience designing curricula, lessons or educational resources.

Safeguarding

The successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check and provide two references.
