An experienced SQL DBA is required to join an ambitious cloud first scale up and challenger within the insurance sector to help manage and maintain their modern and complex Azure & Database estate.
The role:
- Balancing delivery speed with service reliability, you'll play a crucial role in managing problems, deploying and monitoring services, and establishing software delivery pipelines using the Microsoft Azure platform.
- You will also be tasked with the swift resolution of all data-related issues and oversee application databases within the estate.
- Day to day, this will include:
- Troubleshoot data-related issues, ensuring smooth business operations.
- Perform performance tuning and implement database backups for disaster recovery.
- Manage SQL Server Databases and develop databases for MI reporting.
- Create scripts for system integration, monitoring, and application data analysis.
- Deploy and manage virtual machines in highly available settings.
- Resolve third-line data-related tickets and troubleshoot infrastructure and network issues.
- Design and implement Azure data protection features, overseeing application architecture suitability.
- Manage communication with infrastructure partner teams.
- Create and manage virtual networks with high performance and security levels.
- Continuously improve cloud-based solutions and define best practices for deployment and maintenance while ensuring optimal application performance and uptime.
About you:
- Proficiency in SQL Server and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies.
- Experience in Windows and Linux operating system administration.
- Familiarity with Microsoft DevOps and PowerShell scripting.
- Possession of Azure certifications in specialized areas preferred.
- Expertise in utilizing IaaS and PaaS services, including database services and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of IP subnetting, Network Security Groups, routing, Azure Firewall, load balancing, DNS, and other networking concepts and protocols.
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational database technologies.
- Familiarity with the Atlassian toolset (JIRA/Confluence).
- Advantageous to have familiarity with domain-driven design principles.
On top of these technical skills, we are looking for an Azure Data and Infrastructure Engineer who:
- Can demonstrate skills in identifying and evaluating new opportunities for technology innovation.
- Has experience of working in the UK Financial Services Industry (ideally within Life and Pensions).
- Has experience of providing technical leadership on complex integration projects.
- Is a self-starter with the ability to work with little management supervision.
- Has the ability to multi-task, be flexible and deal with interruptions and change.
- Is a strong communicator able to foster excellent professional relationships.
- Can co-ordinate the triage, identification and resolution of complex production and non-production issues.
