Are you a data scientist with a love of LLMs, generative AI and Natural Language Processing? We are looking for a passionate data scientist to drive the legal technology revolution.

The role:

  • As a data scientist working as part of a scaling, agile and multi-functional expert team, you will use your strengths and interest in the real-life application of LLMs, generative AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to unlock new value, efficiencies, and insights within a leading legal tech organisation.
  • Your work will drive transformative internal and external solutions for our client and will be integral in delivering the new approaches required to meet the challenges faced within the evolving legal sector.
  • This data scientist job will be varied and interesting - no two days the same.

You will:

  • Hit the ground running! You’ll own and deliver on challenging, client-facing projects and be actively involved in growing this work from day one.
  • Contribute to processing pipelines that turn legal documents into data. You’ll create useful data sets by combining data from several sources.
  • Subject these data sets to rigorous analysis and identify and address challenges around data quality.
  • Use your passion and enthusiasm for LLM to help to develop and apply this technology to meet business needs.
  • Be a subject matter expert on data engineering, natural language processing and machine learning, both in client meetings and internal discussions.
  • Employ technical expertise to support the team in identifying and securing new business opportunities.
  • Actively share your skills and expertise to contribute to the professional development of the wider team.

About you:

  • We are looking for a data scientist with these technical skills:
  • Has a masters or Ph.D. in a related field such as Computer Science or Data Science.
  • Has specific natural language processing expertise, and some experience of using and manipulating LLM in data science projects.
  • Can work confidently with at least one common language used for manipulating data (e.g., Python, R) and is familiar with LLM libraries (e.g., langchain).
  • Has some understanding of generative AI technologies in terms of training and fine-tuning language models and regarding good Prompt Engineering.
  • Has used machine learning to solve real problems for clients or stakeholders.

It would be great but not essential if you had:

  • Experience of working in an agile team.
  • Worked with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • A working knowledge of Git and version control principles.
  • Knowledge of popular deep learning frameworks - Hugging Face Transformers library, for example.
  • Experience of building LLM applications.
  • Experience of working with legal or other business professionals.
  • Confidence when speaking, able to share your knowledge and skills with colleagues and perhaps even larger audiences.

On a personal level, our data scientist will need to show a solution-focused and logical approach to technical challenges; someone who can define an approach from gathered requirements, and then go on to articulate and execute the vision.

You’ll need an independent, pro-active, and confident approach to managing project-based work and be comfortable navigating competing priorities, resolving ambiguity and managing demanding expectations under pressure.

This data scientist job will require excellent stakeholder management skills and you’ll need the ability to communicate tricky concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Our client prizes diversity and has a culture that thrives on creating a positive impact. This means you’ll be driven to be part of a diverse and inclusive team; so, you’ll need great interpersonal skills and have the ability to relate to individuals at all levels.

The benefits:

  • On top of a culture that champions diversity of thought, autonomy, and innovation, our client offers a comprehensive benefits and bonus package.
  • You can expect private medical insurance and generous pension contribution.
  • Access to an excellent skills academy (including live workshops, podcasts, short videos, and practical learning experiences).
  • A hybrid working approach with a requirement for a minimum of three days in the office with some flexibility (London, Cambridge or Bristol).
  • Our client boasts a spot as a top 30 Employer for Working Families and a top 25 Employer for Social Mobility.
  • A range of social and sports committees, parties and monthly get-togethers.
  • A range of diversity networks to connect people that celebrate our differences, a feature that is integral to the inclusive culture on offer.
