My client is seeking a freelance technical designer to join their team in London.
They are looking for a strong technical designer to support the team on a short-term basis (12 to 16 weeks, with potential for extension) in a hybrid role.
My client delivers high-end F&B and hospitality interior fit-out projects, covering feasibility, concept, and delivery phases for projects of varying scale and budget internationally. What sets them apart is a passion for infusing personality into every project, crafting timeless spaces that resonate with clients.
The successful candidate will be a friendly, detail-oriented, and technically minded designer who can translate creative concepts into precise technical drawings. You’ll work closely with the design team to produce detailed, accurate AutoCAD drawings aligned with the design vision and industry standards.
Candidates should hold a degree in design or architecture and have over four years of proven experience as a Technical Designer in hospitality interior design. You must also be comfortable managing a varied workload across multiple projects to meet client deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare feasibility studies and site assessments under the Senior Designer’s guidance
- Compile highly detailed working drawings / technical tender packs in AutoCAD (plans, elevations, joinery details) and specifications (finishes and furniture) with support from the project team
- Review and refine design intent drawings for construction and manufacturing
- Prepare drawing packages for client presentations
- Liaise with contractors and subcontractors during construction stages to ensure accurate implementation of design; propose creative solutions for issues found on site
- Review all drawing packages from consultants, ensuring a high standard of technical accuracy (including shop drawings)
- Ensure all drawings comply with local building regulations and studio standards
Skills and Experience:
- A degree in interior design or interior architecture
- Over four years of proven experience as a technical designer in hospitality interior design
- Impeccable AutoCAD skills
- Strong construction, fabrication, and on-site knowledge, particularly in the F&B sector and custom joinery
- Solid understanding of materials, finishes, and construction methods
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Working knowledge of Building Regulations, British Standards, and other relevant statutory legislation
- Knowledge of USA state-specific or UAE regulations is beneficial but not essential
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp is a plus
