Igne is continuing to expand its national site laboratory capability, and we are looking to appoint an experienced Remote / Field Laboratory Manager to support major infrastructure and earthworks projects throughout the UK. This is a senior operational role for someone who genuinely understands construction materials testing, site laboratories, and the realities of working on large, demanding projects. The position can be based anywhere in the UK, including Scottish Highlands & Islands. The role will require extensive travel and periods of living away from home depending on project location.

We are particularly interested in speaking to people who have previously worked on major infrastructure schemes, large earthworks projects or Tier 1 contractor frameworks where temporary or remote laboratories formed a key part of project delivery.

You will take responsibility for the setup, management and operation of remote and field-based laboratories across a range of major projects:

  • Managing remote and temporary laboratory operations
  • Supporting both laboratory and field-testing activities
  • Maintaining UKAS compliance and quality standards
  • Managing technicians and project resources on site
  • Liaising directly with contractors, project teams and operational management
  • Supporting mobilisation of new site laboratories nationwide
  • Ensuring reporting, turnaround times and technical delivery meet client expectations
  • Working closely with Igne's wider laboratory network for technical and operational support

We are looking for someone with strong technical and operational experience within the UK construction materials testing industry:

  • Extensive CMT experience across laboratory and field testing
  • Experience working within UKAS accredited laboratories
  • Strong understanding of earthworks, aggregates and concrete testing
  • Previous experience managing site or remote laboratories
  • Experience working on major infrastructure or Tier 1 contractor projects
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills
  • A practical and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Flexibility to work away from home for extended periods where projects require it

This is not a desk-based management role. We are looking for someone who is comfortable leading from the front in challenging project environments.

Igne is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.
