About the Opportunity:

GamesIndustry.biz is looking for an Editorial Director to lead our expert writing team to deliver content on the best gaming industry B2B website in the world. This position will generate informative and up-to-date editorial content and craft the site\'s content strategy and delivery, all while preserving high standards of integrity, credibility, and quality for our industry audience. This role will also need to have a presence at industry events, as well as aid in the planning and execution of GI.biz events such as the Great Place to Work awards.

This role will lead the global GamesIndustry.biz writing team and foster a collaborative and productive working environment. The Editorial Director will also manage a dedicated freelance budget for the site, and must be able to effectively allocate resources for content production needs. This position reports directly to our SVP of Publishing, and will maintain close alignment with the broader business objectives and strategy of IGN Entertainment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with the writing team to select the right topics, approaches, structure, and content priorities for our audience
  • Track industry trends, potential disruptors and align editorial content with that information to keep the audience informed
  • Manage and oversee the publishing schedule to maximize the team\'s time and focus to ensure our content is delivered timely and aligns with the priorities of the games industry
  • Lead and develop the writing team, which includes managing and procuring an external pool of writers and contributors and the subsequent freelance budget
  • Collaborate with our wider organization to develop standard methodologies, and share this expertise.
  • Attend major industry conferences and press events, and manage the team\'s attendance, to ensure the site has access to major interviews and contacts.
  • Edit copy written by others for accuracy, transparency and structure
  • Master our content management system (CMS) and use it to prepare your own and others\' content for publication
  • Implement an updated social media strategy to ensure the audience is receiving the right information in the right places for them
  • Partner with internal teams in successful delivery of GamesIndustry.biz events and special projects

Job Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of the games industry across a wide range of fields.
  • Good understanding of corporate dealings, including how to interpret earnings calls, financial statements, implications of acquisitions, etc and how to make that content relevant to our audience
  • Ability to build a network of contacts across the industry
  • Ability to edit other writers\' copy to the highest standards of accuracy while under time pressure
  • Strong practical understanding of video game design and development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Role Structure:

  • Work Schedule: This is a full-time role. Due to this role being at the Director level, there may be a need to work extended hours beyond the standard working schedule, and on weekends from time to time.
  • Travel Requirements: There is a requirement for this role to travel internationally to attend industry events.
  • Physical Requirements: This role involves standard computer and office based activities, including extended periods of sitting, standing, and working at a computer. Occasional travel is required, which could include lifting and carrying materials, and navigating airports, hotels, and other venues.   • Work Model: This is a hybrid position, and there is a requirement to work out of our London office at least 2-3 days per week.
