As our News Editor, you will work closely with our award‑winning editorial team to help lead its news output and build upon its excellent foundations, while having the chance to bring a fresh voice to Eurogamer.

The News Editor will be responsible for:

  • Selecting and writing stories our audience will love.
  • Editing news stories written by other team members.
  • Being prolific within tight deadlines.
  • Unearthing stories others have missed from gaming's many active communities.

The successful applicant will have section editor, news editor, or other senior editorial experience, with a background in published news writing — ideally within the games sector — and in particular a track record of originating new stories. This role is based in London, with an expectation to work a hybrid schedule out of our office. The role generally follows a standard full‑time schedule, but due to the nature of the role, you may be required to work outside of normal hours from time to time for big stories and large releases. This role involves computer‑based work, which requires regular use of hands and vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the coordination, sourcing, and prioritisation of daily news coverage.
  • Working closely with the team to report on announcements, conduct interviews, and investigate stories that matter to our readers.
  • Delivering accurate, clear, and concise copy to a deadline, following well‑defined editorial standards, while also offering a fresh voice on our site.
  • Embedding within game communities to spot potential stories.
  • Following up assiduously with PRs, sources, and other contacts to go deeper on stories.
  • Working in our CMS to make sure stories meet a high standard of presentation.
  • Collaborating with the entire editorial team on all aspects of Eurogamer's coverage.

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrable talent for good reporting.
  • Ability to unearth and tell interesting, original stories about games and their communities.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately edit news reporting, focusing on high standards and astute angles and headlines.
  • Willingness to secure on‑ and off‑diary interviews and ask tough questions.
  • Potentially encyclopedic knowledge of video games from a range of genres.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of determination and drive.
  • Positive attitude and a team mentality.
  • A passion for and excitement about video games and gaming culture.

Bonus Points

  • Experience of line management or leading a small team in a journalistic setting.
  • A journalism qualification or degree in a relevant subject.
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn about the big, topical games of the moment.
  • An interest in the technology, entertainment, and lifestyle sectors in general.
