We are currently recruiting a Workshop Manager for our client’s busy automotive operation in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader with both mechanical and bodyshop knowledge to take on a key operational management role, with responsibility for day-to-day workshop performance, people management and customer satisfaction.

The Role:

As Workshop Manager, you’ll lead a busy operation, overseeing all aspects of workshop performance including mechanical and cosmetic repairs, health and safety, people management and customer service. You’ll also act as Duty Manager in the Centre Manager’s absence and work closely with the wider site management team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the workshop team, ensuring high-quality and efficient repair work is completed on time.
  • Deputise for the Centre Manager and other Duty Managers when required.
  • Lead on health and safety, operational standards, and compliance within the workshop.
  • Manage WIP and production volumes, achieving operational KPIs and financial targets.
  • Support with recruitment, training, performance management, and staff wellbeing.
  • Handle internal and external queries or complaints, ensuring swift resolution.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and support wider business initiatives.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in a supervisory or management role within a mechanical or bodyshop environment.
  • Strong understanding of both mechanical and cosmetic vehicle repair processes.
  • Excellent people management and leadership skills.
  • Good IT and reporting skills, including experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to prioritise under pressure.
  • Comfortable dealing with customer queries and escalations.
  • Experience working to ISO standards and health & safety frameworks (desriable).
