Job Description

Job title: Junior Designer

Reporting to: Managing Designer

Location: Cottage Farm, Mears Ashby Road, Sywell, Northamptonshire, NN6 0BJ

Working pattern: Hybrid – minimum of two days per week in the office; up to

three days per week working from home

About The Role

We are seeking a talented Junior Designer to join our dynamic team at Igloo Books. As a Junior Designer, you will design and support the development of creative projects, managing a range of mostly lower complexity products from initial concept to final output. Their work will adhere to Igloo’s design procedures and align with agreed budgets and schedules. Success in this role requires effective communication, teamwork, and attention to detail. The Junior Designer’s contributions plays a vital role in delivering high-quality projects that meet the business’s goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of Publishing and senior team to develop creative projects
  • Assist in the creation of dummies and prototypes, ensuring alignment with project briefs
  • Build and maintain category knowledge to inform creative decisions
  • Manage low-complexity projects related to format or content
  • Understand and contribute to the New Product Development (NPD) process
  • Build strong working relationships with contributors, such as illustrators, suppliers, and freelancers
  • Address challenges proactively, escalating issues as needed to meet deadlines
  • Provide ad-hoc support for other teams, as well as business opportunities and initiatives
  • Show enthusiasm for learning and taking on new design challenges.
  • Set and pursue personal development goals aligned with the role.
  • Remain up to date with design trends and best practices in the publishing industry.
  • Delivery of high-quality design outputs within agreed schedules and budgets.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Relevant technical knowledge of design software.
  • Strong awareness of formats, age ranges and subject matter.
  • Strong visual communication and creative skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Solid understanding of the design process and technical standards.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office Suite.
