IG has been at the centre of retail trading and investment since 1974, when we helped create the market for financial spread betting. Today, we're a FTSE100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 700,000 clients and handling billions in transactions - built on decades of scale, trust and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that’s rare in established businesses. The bar is high - bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next.
Role Purpose
The Developer Enablement and Adoption Lead for Infrastructure & Operations exists to make it easy for developers and app teams to adopt I&O products with confidence. This role is the bridge between what I&O platforms can do and what app teams actually know how to do with them - closing the gap between capability and adoption. The role owns the enablement strategy that ensures every application team has the skills, knowledge, and hands‑on confidence needed to build on, migrate to, and operate I&O products, including cloud platforms, CI/CD, observability, and core infrastructure services. A defining part of this role is running in‑person, SME‑led workshops embedded directly with app teams - working shoulder to shoulder with developers at the point of need to accelerate cloud adoption and migration, resolve real blockers in real time, and leave teams genuinely self‑sufficient rather than dependent on I&O support.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
- Developer & app team enablement strategy: Define and own the enablement strategy that ensures developers and app teams have the right skills and knowledge to adopt I&O products, aligned to platform roadmaps and organisational cloud adoption goals. Design a structured, persona‑based curriculum covering core platform capabilities including AWS, GitLab, observability, performance engineering, and emerging products such as Kong API, tailored to app teams at different stages of cloud maturity. Build clear enablement pathways for app teams undertaking cloud migrations, from initial onboarding through to independent operation of I&O products in production. Ensure every enablement intervention is practical and outcome‑focused, directly tied to faster, safer adoption of I&O standards and patterns by app teams.
- In‑person SME workshops and accelerated adoption using EBA methodologies: Design and deliver a programme of in‑person, subject‑matter‑expert‑led workshops embedded with app teams to directly accelerate cloud adoption and migration timelines. Coordinate platform SMEs to work hands‑on with developers on live migration and adoption challenges, turning workshop time into shipped outcomes rather than passive training. Use workshops as an early‑warning mechanism - surfacing adoption blockers, skills gaps, and platform friction directly from app teams, and feeding this back into the platform and enablement roadmap. Track and report on workshop impact in terms of migration velocity, adoption milestones reached, and reduction in support dependency for participating app teams.
- Content development and maintenance: Produce and maintain high‑quality, developer‑facing learning materials - guides, runbooks, worked examples, and self‑service modules - that complement the Engineers Handbook and directly support app teams adopting I&O products. Partner with platform subject matter experts to translate technical capability into clear, actionable content developers can apply immediately during migrations and builds. Establish a regular review cadence for all enablement content, ensuring materials stay accurate and aligned to evolving platform standards and tooling. Develop assessment and validation mechanisms so developers and their managers can demonstrate and track capability growth in adopting I&O products.
- Enablement partnership: Work closely with the Platform Enablement team to embed structured developer capability building into every high‑touch and medium‑touch engagement and migration. Design and run onboarding programmes for app teams new to I&O platforms, reducing time to confident, independent adoption. Identify capability gaps emerging from engagement patterns, migration activity, and support tickets, and respond with targeted SME workshops rather than waiting to be asked. Act as an enablement advisor to app team leads, helping them identify development needs and build self‑sufficient, cloud‑capable teams.
- Community and knowledge sharing: Build and nurture a developer enablement community across I&O and app teams, fostering peer‑to‑peer knowledge sharing and reducing dependency on centralised support. Facilitate workshops, lunch‑and‑learn sessions, and structured learning events that bring developers and platform SMEs together around shared adoption and migration challenges. Engage external specialists, vendors, and learning networks to bring best‑in‑class cloud adoption knowledge into the organisation and translate it into practical, workshop‑ready guidance. Champion documentation as a first‑class engineering behaviour, driving adoption of the Engineers Handbook as the single reference point for knowledge across I&O and app teams.
- Measurement and continuous improvement: Define and track enablement effectiveness metrics including workshop attendance and outcomes, capability uplift, migration and adoption velocity, and correlation with platform adoption goals. Regularly report on enablement programme performance to the Platform Enablement Lead and senior stakeholders, demonstrating how developer enablement is accelerating cloud adoption and migration. Create dashboards to track capability uplift, app team adoption progress, and the calendar of upcoming SME workshops and enablement products. Use data from engagement patterns, support trends, and migration progress to continuously evolve the enablement strategy and prioritise where app teams need the most support. Establish feedback loops with app teams to ensure enablement content and workshops remain relevant, practical, and directly tied to real migration and adoption work. Model an enabler mindset: measure success by what developers and app teams can do independently after a workshop, not by the volume of content produced. Collaborate proactively with platform teams, engineering leads, and external partners to ensure enablement is always connected to a live migration or adoption outcome. Drive continuous improvement in enablement practice, regularly reviewing what accelerates adoption, what does not, and adjusting the workshop and content model accordingly. Leverage AI to create repeatable enablement content and track capability and adoption patterns across app teams.
Person specification
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in a learning, enablement, or engineering capability development role, ideally within infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering contexts. Demonstrated experience designing and delivering technical enablement programmes for developers and app teams, with measurable adoption and migration outcomes. Track record of running in‑person, hands‑on workshops with engineering audiences, not just remote or self‑service training. Background working within or alongside platform, DevOps, SRE, or cloud engineering teams, with sufficient technical depth to translate complex concepts into accessible, actionable guidance. Experience working in an advisory or embedded capacity alongside app teams, understanding how skills and knowledge gaps present during real cloud migrations.
- Skills and knowledge: Strong understanding of modern cloud and infrastructure concepts across platforms including AWS, with working familiarity across CI/CD, observability, IaC, and security fundamentals. Expertise in instructional design, curriculum development, and adult learning principles applied in technical or engineering contexts. Excellent written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to produce clear, well‑structured technical documentation and developer‑facing learning materials. Strong facilitation and coaching skills, with proven ability to run engaging, hands‑on, in‑person SME workshops for developers and app teams at varying levels of cloud maturity. Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to assess enablement effectiveness and prioritise where investment will most accelerate app team adoption. Effective stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, able to build credibility with developers, app team leads, and senior technology leaders.
- Behaviours: Curiosity and a genuine commitment to continuous learning, both for yourself and the developers and app teams you support. Collaborative by default: you build relationships across teams and bring people together around shared adoption goals. Standards‑conscious: you understand why quality and consistency matter and embed that mindset into everything you produce. Outcome‑focused: you care about whether app teams can independently adopt and migrate to I&O products, not just whether a workshop took place.
Mobility: Regular travel to IG locations to run in‑person SME workshops, work directly with app teams during cloud migrations, and build relationships with team members, stakeholders, and vendor partners.
The Perks: Your growth fuels our success! Thrive with tailored development programs, mentoring opportunities with leaders, and clear career progression. Expand your network through committees, sports and social clubs. Enjoy extra time off for volunteering and community work.
