About the Opportunity

Enterprise Risk Director – senior leadership role at the heart of IG's second line of defence. Responsible for design, ownership and continuous evolution of IG’s enterprise‑wide risk management framework. Provide independent oversight and challenge across all risk categories, ensure IG operates within Board‑approved risk appetite and meets regulator expectations across all global jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and continuously evolve IG’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, anticipating emerging risks across business lines, geographies and regulatory jurisdictions.
  • Define and steward the Group’s risk taxonomy, risk appetite statements and tolerance thresholds in partnership with the CRO, CFO and Board Risk Committee.
  • Lead proactive, continuous review of risk appetite, staying ahead of shifts in strategic plan, capital position and regulatory horizon.
  • Maintain the Group Risk Register as a live, dynamic management tool – ensuring material and emerging risks are captured, owned and subject to appropriate mitigating controls and escalation triggers.
  • Oversee the Group’s Material Controls framework to support the annual Board attestation.
  • Anticipate and track the evolving regulatory risk profile across the Group, working with Divisional Heads of Compliance to stay ahead of change.
  • Prepare and present forward‑looking risk reporting to the Executive Risk Committee (monthly) and Board Risk Committee (quarterly) and other key committees.
  • Run key risk governance forums, including the Executive Risk Committee, Risk Committee and Conduct and Remuneration Risk Committee.
  • Act as primary point of contact for internal audit, external auditors and regulators on enterprise risk matters.
  • Maintain and develop the Risk function’s policies, procedures and methodologies to reflect best practice and regulatory evolution.
  • Champion a strong risk culture across the organisation, promoting risk awareness and accountability through training, communication and behavioural frameworks.
  • Partner with HR, Compliance and business leadership to embed risk behaviours into performance frameworks, onboarding and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Lead, develop and inspire the Enterprise Risk team, setting clear expectations for quality, pace and stakeholder engagement.
  • Serve as IG’s senior representative on enterprise‑risk matters in engagements with the FCA and other global regulators.
  • Build strong relationships with Divisional Risk leads to ensure consistent application of the ERM framework across geographies.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Finance and Internal Audit to ensure a joined‑up approach to risk identification, escalation and remediation.

Key Deliverables & Outcomes

  • Maintain a robust, Board‑approved ERM framework consistently applied across all business lines and jurisdictions.
  • Deliver high‑quality, insight‑led risk reporting to the Board Risk Committee and Executive Risk Committee on a regular cycle.
  • Lead a credible and well‑governed suite of risk governance forums with clear escalation and decision‑making protocols.
  • Ensure the Group Risk Register is current, complete and actively used as a management tool – not a compliance exercise.
  • Embed FCA Consumer Duty and Treating Customers Fairly within the ERM framework as live, evidenced obligations.
  • Drive measurable improvement in risk culture maturity across the organisation, evidenced through engagement data and audit findings.
  • Build and maintain a high‑performing Enterprise Risk team with clear development pathways and strong stakeholder relationships.

Success Profile

Professional Experience

  • Significant progressive experience in enterprise or operational risk within a regulated financial services firm – ideally spanning both second line and senior leadership roles.
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise risk frameworks, risk appetite design and risk taxonomy across a complex, multi‑entity group.
  • Strong command of UK regulatory requirements, especially FCA expectations including Consumer Duty, SYSC and SM&CR.
  • Proven experience preparing and presenting to Board‑level risk committees and engaging directly with regulators.
  • Experience leading or significantly contributing to risk governance forums at ExCo or Board level.
  • Track record of driving risk culture change in a large, globally distributed organisation.
  • Experience managing and developing risk teams, building capability and raising standards.
  • Familiarity with international regulatory environments across key jurisdictions (Europe, APAC, North America) advantageous.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strategic thinker able to set direction, prioritise and operate with authority across a complex organisation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills – able to distil complex risk topics into clear, Board‑ready narratives.
  • Strong stakeholder influencing skills with gravitas to challenge senior leaders and engage regulators confidently.
  • Commercially minded – understands the business context in which risk operates and avoids being a blocker to growth.
  • Collaborative and credible – builds trusted relationships across the second and third lines, and with business leadership.
  • High standards for governance, documentation and process rigour without being bureaucratic.
  • Embodies IG’s performance principles: Lead and Inspire, Think Big, Champion the Client, Deliver at Pace, and Raise the Bar.
