The Financial Crime Investigations Associate is a key role within our organisation, dedicated to investigating and mitigating activities related to financial crime and fraud. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong investigative skills and a deep understanding of AML (Anti-Money Laundering) practices. The ideal candidate will work closely with various Compliance departments, including the Transaction Monitoring (TM) Team and the Client Risk Oversight Team (CRO), to ensure a robust defence against financial crime and fraud, providing insight and analytics to support fraud prevention and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Timely and accurately responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) from regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead and manage fraud investigations, including handling fraud alerts, to ensure timely, consistent, and high-quality outcomes in line with IFX standards and regulations.
- Review and approve investigation outputs while prioritising workloads to balance risk, client impact, and operational needs.
- Conduct thorough investigations into complex or sensitive fraud cases, ensuring detailed case records and audit-ready documentation.
- Analysing documentation, automated alerts, transactional data and conducting open-source research/screening.
- Identifying instances of fraud, trade-based and other forms of money laundering, PEP's, Anti-Bribery/Corruption, Counter Terrorist Financing, and potential sanctions matters.
- Detailing and summarising complex investigations into reports that are escalated to MLRO, DMLRO, and other FinCrime Managers.
- Use industry prevention/mitigation tools and systems to assist with investigation and decision-making.
- Liaise with the Transaction Monitoring and Client Risk Oversight teams to identify and address any AML concerns, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies.
- Closely collaborate with the Compliance wider function to develop and implement effective strategies for preventing financial crime and fraud.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven experience in fraud investigations (preferably within financial services) with strong knowledge of fraud typologies and investigative techniques.
- Ability to handle complex cases with sound judgment and identify trends to improve controls.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including the capacity to prioritise effectively.
- Strong understanding of AML regulations and practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various departments to achieve common goals.
