Job Description

The role: AI is only worthwhile in practice. Someone has to make sure the workflow built for a maintenance planner actually thinks like a maintenance planner — and that a customer can see, in plain numbers, what it means for their operation. That someone is you.

This role sits where our AI meets the real world: part domain expert — whether your depth is a vertical or a function — part pre-sales specialist, part trusted advisor. You are the customer’s voice inside our build process and our clearest voice inside theirs.

What you'll do:

  • Be the customer before the customer shows up. You know a domain — a vertical like energy, utilities, manufacturing, or aerospace, or a function like Finance, HR, Tax, HSE, Audit, IT, or Asset Management — well enough to stand in for the people who work in it. When we design an AI workflow for a reliability engineer or a tax analyst, you are that person in the room: shaping the workflows so it fits how the job is actually done.
  • You own the evals: you define what accurate looks like for a customer, oversee the evaluation of workflow outputs against it, and hold the line. If it wouldn’t convince a 30-year veteran, it doesn’t ship.
  • Show prospects what this means for their business. You will work alongside sales to help prospects and customers understand what we’re building with AI — not the hype version, the real one. What it does, what it doesn’t, and what it changes for their operation, in terms an operations director can take to their board.
  • Stay after the pilot. We don’t ghost customers after the pilot, and neither will you. You will work with customers to enhance and extend their workflows as their operations change — and you will spot the next hard problem worth solving together, growing the relationship as you go. Trusted advisor is an earned title. This role earns it.

What you bring:

  • Deep domain expertise. Real time served in one of our industries (energy, utilities, field service, manufacturing, aerospace, defence, telecoms) or in a function that runs through all of them (Finance, HR, Tax, HSE, Audit, IT, Asset Management, and more) — enough to think like the personas we build for, not just describe them.
  • Fluency with AI products. You can shape workflows, judge model outputs, and design evaluations. You know the difference between a good demo and a system that holds up in week six.
  • Pre-sales instincts. You can explain a complex capability to a sceptical plant manager without a deck full of jargon — and connect it to money, uptime, and risk.
  • An advisor’s judgement. Customers should leave every conversation with you knowing more about their own operation. You spot opportunities without turning every call into a pitch.
  • An evidence habit. You back claims with numbers. When the evidence is missing, you say so and go find it.

We are hiring at multiple levels and across many domains — vertical and functional. Bring four years of experience or twenty; what matters is that you can genuinely stand in for the people we build for, and prove it.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of vertical or functional experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with AI. No specific educational requirements.

We embrace flexibility and hybrid work opportunities to support diverse needs and lifestyles, while also valuing inclusive workplace experiences. By fostering a sense of community, we drive innovation, strengthen connections, and nurture belonging. Our commitment ensures you can work in a way that suits you best, while also engaging with colleagues to share ideas and build meaningful relationships.

How to prepare for a job interview at IFS

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If IFS uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
