IFPI is the leading global source of data for the recorded music industry. The Global Data & Analysis team produces authoritative industry reports including the quarterly MAP market size and share report, the annual Global Music Report, IFPI’s global charts for artists, singles, and albums, as well as supporting numerous national chart programmes worldwide. It also facilitates global and regional committees, working with major and independent record labels, national groups across 60 markets, music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple, YouTube and Tencent, and chart compilers to improve data quality and consistency across the music industry.
The role
IFPI is seeking a Global Charts & Certifications Analyst to join the Global Data and Analysis team in London. The successful candidate will work closely with both the Deputy Director of Global Data and Analysis, who leads the Global Charts & Certifications function, and the Global Charts & Certifications Manager, alongside three Market Analysts. The Global Charts & Certifications function is responsible for IFPI’s Global Charts – recognised by both artists and labels as the most accurate and important measure of global commercial success - and for developing the global landscape for national charts and certifications.
General Responsibilities
- Playing a significant part in the preparation, analysis and presentation of IFPI’s Global Charts (which run between November and March), and in the year-round work with the IFPI Global Charts Committee to update the scope of the charts as well as the processes and methodologies used in their creation.
- Delivering weekly chart reports to senior executives at major record labels and other senior stakeholders, as part of the IFPI managed national chart programme, including insights into the performance of songs and artists across countries. This role had direct responsibility for countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and will also provide cross-regional support as needed.
- Supporting the Global Charts & Certifications manager with a wide range of national charts and certification development projects. Initiatives range from rolling out new charts and certifications programs, to delivering ad-hoc deep dive analyses to stakeholders, through to building and launching public facing charts programs, across more than 60 countries around the world.
- Providing support to priority global projects, including the update of Global Principles for National Charts, the development of reference materials for IFPI’s Global Charts, and the implementation of steps to mitigating the impact of streaming fraud on charts worldwide.
- Supporting with queries from senior global and regional leaders across the music industry, such as producing ad-hoc deep dive analysis of charting tracks and artist performance using deep charts consumption data and related datasets, or explaining global and national chart best practice principles. This role will quickly be seen as a subject matter expert and should be able to respond as such.
- Preparation of materials and research for key committee meetings, such as IFPI’s Main Board and IFPI’s global charts committees, as well as regional committees for Latin America, Asia, MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa. These committees comprise senior global and regional leaders for the music industry / at major and independent record labels.
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent working experience, with experience of delivering excellent client service, preferably in an international role, working closely to deliver against both client and company objectives. They will show a strong interest in data and analysis and be motivated to contribute to and grow within a fast-paced, global setting. The candidate should possess the following competencies:
- Experience working with data, gained through previous roles, internships, or academic projects. The candidate should be detail-oriented, inquisitive, and have a strong interest in developing further their skills in identifying trends and turning data into meaningful insights.
- Strong Excel skills e.g. pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and commonly used formulas.
- Good analytical and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret and structure data clearly, and to explain key findings both in writing and visually.
- Strong interpersonal and client management skills, with the ability to listen and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across a diverse global network, to contribute to team discussions, and respond constructively to feedback.
- Working with a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior executives at the biggest record labels globally, requires a collaborative and proactive (sometimes persistent) approach, with a willingness to take initiative, ownership of tasks and follow up where needed.
- A self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks or projects, prioritise effectively and ensure deadlines are met.
Desirable:
- Experience contributing to or developing high quality business presentations in PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of and an interest in the global recorded music industry and a curiosity about how data influences business decisions in this industry.
